The golf season may be coming to a close outdoors, but for Swing Studio it makes no difference. Again this week I have been teaching in the Studio when it's dark outside. Working even more hours than I already do hasn't gone down all that well at home but you can't please everybody!
Gapping - What is it?
Range finders and GPS devices are great for knowing how far away from the target you are, but do you actually know how far you hit the ball with each club anyway? And do you know the carry of your average shot? Most people don't know the average, but always play for their best shot, which explains why most players come up short because they believe they hit the ball further than they actually do! Anyway, here is your chance to find out some truths that will help you; book in for a 'gapping session'.
It takes about 45 minutes, costs £25 and during that time you will play shots on the GC2 simulator. You warm up with a few shots, before we go through your bag starting with the shortest and working to the longest club. The GC2 records every shot, and creates an average for each club for both the carry and the total distance. We need about three decent strokes with each club really, and supposing you miss-hit a shot we just delete it so not to affect the averages.
We then create a print off which we put on a bag tag, laminate and attach to your golf bag so the next time your scope tells you it's 157 yards to the middle of the green, you will know which club to use - like the one here… And don't feel too inadequate looking at Abbie's yardages, she is a good player with an excellent technique!
Gapping also shows up where there could be big gaps in your set (i.e. distances that you have no club or shot for). On the other hand, it will also show where you have clubs too close together that are covering the same yardage and effectively doing the same job - common around the 3-iron, 4-iron, 7-wood and utility area! If you struggle from certain distances you could have gaps you don't know about.
Consistency is key…
There is no other possible way that you could know the above information, without the accuracy and consistency of the GC2. How could you possibly measure the outcome of each shot to the yard, and then somehow do an average? And with the very same ball? And with the same perfect flat lie every time and with no wind? No chance!
Hire the Swing Studio - 4 for 3
This is to hire the room and use all the kit without me there. I will show you how to use it, it's really easy and then leave you to it. Here's how to book it; ring us in the shop, book the room and come here to pay and collect the key.
The cost to members of Reddish Vale is £16 per hour, and I am offering a loyalty discount of 4 hires for the price of 3 throughout the winter months. This means that the cost nets down to £12 per hour when purchased this way. The national average for hire of a Swing Studio containing a GC2 is £25 per hour, so as a member of Reddish Vale you have the best spec of system there is, with probably the best view of any swing room in the UK, and you will be paying less than half the national average!
Yes it will be open in the evenings (please book in advance). Yes you can use account credit to pay for it. Get in touch here to book a session.
New Titleist 716 demo kit in now
So far we have the AP1s and AP2s with a selection of shaft options including the new Dynamic Gold AMT shaft. If you are wondering what it stands for it is 'Ascending Mass Technology' and is the first set of shafts that feature a lighter shaft in the 3-iron that progressively become heavier as you go through the set. Try them out for yourself and see what you think.
Learn more about them on my website by following this link.
Competition news
See the voucher link below for Saturday's winners. Jonathon Knight won Sunday's event with 40 points (please click here for the full list of winners) and Adam Stott managed a 64 gross in very wet conditions to win on Wednesday. As in previous years we shall run a Pro's Stableford from the yellow tees every Wednesday throughout the winter.
Presentation - MASSIVE ONE!
Saturday, 24 October at 6:00pm. This presentation concludes the 2015 season so turn up and be a part of it. If your friends or playing partners have won it is always good for you to see them receive their prize, and of course hear their speech. If you have won a prize remember to wear your jacket and tie to receive your voucher from the captain. These occasions are always good fun with plenty of banter, not to mention the FREE drink.
Have a look at all the vouchers being presented by clicking here, and any vouchers that weren't collected at the last meeting will also be presented.
