On Monday the Scratch Team played against Sandiway which is always a tough match, but with no Adam, Ryan Jackson, Gary Hill, Dean Martin or Paul Wheelton it was about to get even tougher or at least so we thought. Reddish Vale managed a convincing 4.5-1.5 win over Sandiway at home. Well done, team.
As you are aware there will be a Presentation Meeting this Saturday (tomorrow) at 6pm. Click here to see all the voucher winners and all of the unclaimed vouchers can be found here. See you there!
Don't let the bad weather put you off playing or practicing your golf. You can hire out the Swing Studio at our special introductory rates. As well as doing your gapping or practicing on a choice of ranges, you can also enjoy playing courses such as:
Carnoustie, The Celtic Manor Resort, Cog Hill, Congressional Country Club, Hazeltine National GC, Kingsbarns, Oakmont Country Club, Royal Birkdale, Royal Troon, Shaumburg, Sunningdale Country Club, Turnberry - Ailsa Course and the Warwickshire National/Brabazon
Plus others! You can simply play the courses, or when you find a favourite par three or great driving hole you can set to practice mode and repeatedly play the same shot for as long as you please. You can also practice your chipping or pitching to any of the holes.
One little feature I particularly like is that when you practice chipping and you leave an early shot short that is right on the path to the hole, rather than your later shots colliding with it and blocking the path to the hole as they do normally outside, on the GC2 the later shots pass through any that are in the way like ghosts! See for yourself by booking your Swing Room session with us in the pro shop. Get in touch here.

Pitchmarks
I talk about these too often but they are still not being repaired and still not being repaired correctly so here we go again…
Such a basic ask but why are players not repairing their pitchmarks? The course is great, the greens are brilliant, and frustrated, Nick has asked for some really basic care for the course from the members. After Saturday's competition I had a look at the 5th green. There were several unrepaired pitchmarks, particularly at the front edge of the green and about a dozen really big pitch marks in the fringe. The shots that caused these marks would have finished very close by, and you need to walk between the two bunkers (which was the area peppered in large pitchmarks) to access the green so there is simply no excuse. There were no visiting parties to blame on Saturday.
Please repair your pitchmarks in the fringes, let alone on the green as players often putt from these areas. If you notice a large un-repaired pitchmark, repair it.
Repair a pitchmark correctly by using a tool to draw the displaced turf back to where it came from and then tap it flat
If anyone is still unsure please ask. Members' special - FREE pitch forks while stocks last…could this be the answer?
Sat 8 Aug - Congratulations to Graham Warburton who won the Norman Pike Trophy with a brilliant 64 nett. Graham had eight pars and a bogey on his outward nine holes which is great golf by anyone's standard, but he finished bogey, bogey to finish with a gross 73. Paul Wheelton has been close in most majors this year and managed a 68-3=65 to finish just second. There wasn't many twos this week, so each two was worth a healthy £14.37.
Sun 9 Aug - Sunday's Pro's Stableford was won by Ricky Dobbins with 40 points. Dean Martin finished second with another good score of 39 points which included a blob; Dean beat Andy White on a card play-off. Click here to see the full results.
Wed 12 Aug - Wednesday's Chairman's Prize was played in glorious sunshine. Rick Dobbins won with a nett 65 reducing him to 16. Rick said the sudden form was all thanks to his preparation. Rick has adopted a new routine of arriving with about two minutes to spare before his tee time rather than just the one! Dave Hamilton finished second with a nett 66 beating Nick Hayward on a card play-off. Nearest the pin on the 4th was won by Dave Hamilton, with Kenny Barthram winning this on the 12th after playing a 5-iron to about six feet. Nearest the pin in 2 on 16 was won by Dave Hamilton who commented 'I punched a 9-iron in and by using a Pro V1, it just stopped on its second bounce and was right next to the hole.' Dave's was the closest of the nearest to the pins, and the marker was no more than six inches from the hole.
