Exchange Day
On Wednesday we had 42 players from Hazel Grove who really enjoyed our course, and several went out of their way to praise the condition of our course and in particular the fantastic condition of the greens. Of course I have passed this on to Nick and the lads, Nick said 'they weren't even quick on Wednesday!'.
Custom fitting gets results
Steve Bardsley is really enjoying his new custom fitted set of Titleist AP1 irons. Steve had been waiting for the Swing Studio to open and was one of the first people I fitted using the new facility.
Steve tried the same Titleist AP1 head but with different weights and flexes of shaft. The GC2 proved the lightweight steel shaft (Dynalite Gold XP) was the one for Steve as not only did Steve increase his distance by a whole club compared to his old TaylorMade irons, but the distribution of the shots was far more consistent as well.
Well done to Steve who won my Pro's Stableford on Wednesday with an excellent score of 41 points. Steve did tell me when he last won an individual competition but it was a while ago!
Improve and see the proof
I love the GC2 and so will you! No matter how much of a 'doubting Thomas' you are - and I know there are just a couple of you at Reddish Vale - you can actually see the proof of your improvement on the GC2. So next time some misguided person tells you that golf tuition doesn't work or that the world is flat - I can prove otherwise.
How?
You can see your side spin rates reducing in rpm = straighter shots
You can see your club head speed increasing in mph = more distance
You can see your swing path becoming more along the target line = improved accuracy
Example
Ian Cowlard booked an appointment for a 'gapping' session, which is when we go through the bag and all your distances (both flight and roll) are measured and recorded. As we went through the bag, working from shorter toward longer clubs it was noticeable that Ian achieves good distance with his irons, but with some right to left spin. The reason for the spin was because Ian's right hand position was slightly strong (too far to the right) and the swing path slightly in-to-out.
Ian can get away with this with the shorter clubs, but as we got onto the longer clubs and especially the driver it was clearly causing problems. Ian's right hand was re-positioned slightly, which initially felt a little weak, but the clubface was in a better position and Ian could stop compensating and commit properly to the shot again. The result was neutral loft, reduced side spin, a straighter swing path and of course straighter shots.
And did the swing slow down with a weaker grip?
No, because of the reduced hand action and increased body turn, Ian's swing speed increased from an average of 88mph to 92 mph and peaked at 95.1 mph. When the shots began to go right I then adjusted Ian's driver which was set up open to compensate for a closed clubface. The result is known as win-win-win!
Come and see me, see your golf improve and see the proof for yourself! If you are interested in a club fitting in our new Swing Studio, please come and see us in store or get in touch here.

Wed 24 Jun - Wednesday's Pro Shop Stableford was won by Steve Bardsley with 41 points. Phil Booth must have thought he had done enough with 40 points but it was only good enough for second place. Curtis Brokenbrow finished in third with 39 points. Each two was worth £3.92. For the full results please click here.
