Bridgestone Ball Fitting day
Players fitted at last season's ball fitting day achieved better results such as more distance and better flight, and needless to say lower scores with a correctly fitted ball. Many Reddish members learnt something that day and are now playing Bridgestone golf balls. It is a bit of an eye opener really on a subject that many players are not paying enough attention to. It's true you do have a good day with a certain type of ball, happen to play well and decide that must be the ball for you. I know that too many golfers are still using golf balls whose design dates from the 1990's and with Bridgestone golf balls much has improved since then. In fact the ball is probably the most improved piece of equipment over the last two or three decades and remains the most regulated piece of equipment in the game. Anyway, rather than me going on about it, here is your chance to see for yourself!
This year's Bridgestone fitting day is scheduled for Saturday, 4 July and there are 10 minutes appointments available between 10am and 2pm. These appointments are FREE and will get booked up quickly so please contact us in the pro shop and book in now to avoid disappointment.
Lie angles
Gradually, more players are appreciating the importance of correctly fitted equipment and in particular what lie angles actually are and how they affect your ball flight. This is essential when choosing a new set of irons and particularly important in the shorter clubs which contact the ground the most.
Good news - even if you have made the mistake of buying poorly or non-fitting equipment such as goods straight off the shelf or even online that you haven't even tried first. I can check your set up and correct them for you. A lie angle too flat will cause shots that generally go to the right and a lie angle too upright will cause shots to go to the left. Correctly fitted clubs will promote straighter, more accurate shots. A lie angle check is FREE and will take five minutes!

PING G30 - 'the future of fast'
Abbie likes her PING K15 3-wood but has found that it goes a bit higher than she would like, with quite a gap between her driver and 3-wood. On Tuesday night we did a comparison between Abbie's K15 and the current model which is the G30. The results were quite amazing as the K15 averaged 202 yards and the G30 218 yards. The difference is the new face of the G30 and if you ask Abbie, she will tell you how her swing speed increased by 4mph with the G30 and how she can feel the ball coming off faster, as though there were a trampoline affect in the face.
Gaining almost 20 yards is a lot and makes such a difference on your next shot! After the yardage comparison on flat ground, we could fully appreciate the difference as we put them to the test on the 15th hole at Celtic Manor (in the swing room of course!). This is a short, dog leg, uphill par four of 206 yards for the ladies. The K15 3-wood was typically pitching just short and stopping, whereas the G30 3-wood was pitching on the green and a couple even made the back bunker.
Keeping things good
As far as Abbie's technique is concerned, her set up and rhythm was good, she feels confident and her ball striking was very consistent. Good players are easy and a pleasure to coach because they are already good and the information they need is far less than a beginner or game improver. Lots of Pro’s like teaching good players for this reason. It is making them good in the first place that takes the work!
I also gave Abbie a putting lesson this week as I noticed a small amount of wrist action had crept in. Putting strokes must be maintained and remain as smooth as possible. If you haven't ever come across a 'Yes golf V Easy' as seen here, it is a one of the most simple and effective training aids there are. Straight away you can feel what a smooth stroke is like and this is the key to a better stroke and holing more putts. It is a real favourite aid of mine and of course we have one in the pro shop as Abbie is demonstrating here.
Success for John Lloyd
Well done to John Lloyd who played in the inter town golf tournament at The French National golf club just south of Paris last week. John really enjoyed the course and indeed the whole trip which he said was first class. John's 38 points won the individual competition overall and I am pleased to report this is the second time that John has had a lesson immediately before going abroad and winning. The last time we had a lesson on the practice area and John followed it with victory in Portugal, this time it was a lesson in the swing room and victory in France!
If you are looking to improve your game this summer click here and one of the team will be happy to book you in for a lesson or series of lessons.
Scratch team
The scratch team got a good half at Stockport in pretty awful conditions on Monday night so well done to them.
