Invitation Day One
Invitation Day One is on Sunday,10 May.Yes, this is a week on Sunday and this one has really come up very quickly indeed. No sheet is on the board as per previous invitation days, you need to book this one on BRS. This is played as a rolling start so you can choose what time you play. This year you can even have a bite to eat before you tee off if you fancy it. Here is an opportunity for all our Sunday players' to have a really good day and do something to help promote the golf club as well. So invite your friends along and let's show them how good our course is.
Unfortunately The Founders Trophy was cancelled due to flooded greens, we had a half hour delay but the greens were still flooded. Therefore the competition will now be played on Saturday 9 May. Spare a thought for Graham Taylor who was five up playing the 17th with two putts for another win at the time.
Sunday's Pro's Stableford was won by Rick Dobbins with 39 points. Ross Paton finished second with 38 points. New junior member John Brown plays off four and claimed third with 37 points. Thanks for another great entry so prizes went down to sixth this week.
There were seven two's at £8.85 each. Click here to see the full results.
Wed Sec
Craig Hill is back playing regularly again and he won Division One with 37 points. Mike Thompson has just invested in a custom fitted set of Titleist AP1 irons and he won Division Two by three points with 38 on Wednesday. This was the first competitive outing for the irons and I reckon these will see Mike comfortably down to single figures before long. Graham Taylor was probably the most disappointed player that The Founders Trophy was rained off last week as he was five up playing the 17th with two putts for another win at the time. Anyway, Graham is clearly playing well as he won division Three on Wednesday.
Although it was voted in at the Wednesday section AGM last year, it has been noted that playing in fourballs in stableford competitions on a Wednesday is already causing problems. If you do play in a fourball you still need to keep up with the game in front.
Abbie going well…
Abbie is currently playing in the Ladies County Championship at Delamere Forest. Yesterday was the 36 hole qualifying day for the knockout stage being played today and tomorrow.
Despite a quadruple bogy on her card in the morning, Abbie managed a respectable score of six over par in tough conditions. Abbie didn't sound too disappointed and said the greens which were more like 'browns' (they have no sprinkler system at Delamere) were extremely quick. I am delighted to tell you that in the afternoon Abbie bounced back with an astonishing six under par gross (a round of 67) for a level par total of 146 and to qualify for the knockout stage with ease.
This is Abbie's personal best score to date, the one we have been waiting for and I am delighted for her. Abbie takes regular lessons, listens well and works on the right things. During the last year or so Abbie has improved her core movement which is how she has continued to improve. Another attribute that helps Abbie is the fact she stays very much in control of herself as much as her golf ball!
Abbie won her morning match 4&3 today and is currently playing her afternoon match in the last eight. If she wins that she won't be in the shop tomorrow! Well done Abbie and good luck.
New grip - less vibration
Take a look at the new Golf Pride CP2 grip. I'm sure you would agree it looks like most other grips but its performance is different; it absorbs vibration far better than previous grips and so provides a superior feel at impact. Lots is said about how forged club heads give softer feel than cast ones, but what about differences in the part of the club you hold onto?
The CP2 features an 'inner control core' which is basically an absorbent rubber plug beneath the grip which dampens vibration. These could benefit any golfer, but for players with arthritis or any other pain which is irritated by the vibration of playing a shot these should be noticeably better. They are also available in a red design if you prefer!
