Greetings from Andrew Myers
Reddish Vale Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

There is a Presentation tomorrow at 5.00pm. If your name is on the list (click here) please turn up in your jacket and tie to collect your voucher from the Captain.

This week we have received the new advanced fitting system from PING - which is their first with interchangeable heads and shafts. This will give far greater options when trying irons and allows you to find a suitable head, with correct lie angle and try it with the shafts of your choice. Come and ask us about custom fitting of golf clubs, and how the correctly fitted clubs result in better shots and lower scores. You are welcome to try any of our demo products with no obligation to buy so come in and put them to the test. If you did wish to book a fitting, you can do so by getting in touch here.

The new PING wedges are of sleeker design than previous PING wedges and feature a new assortment of bounce angles. They arrived in stock this week and will compliment any existing set of PING clubs very nicely, particularly if you are looking for less chunkiness and more playability at the shorter end of the set. I am very busy with coaching at the moment I'm pleased to say. My best days for teaching are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

A very effective method I use which helps players to improve is to record their technique on an iPad at the start of the lesson, during and again at the end of it. Not only can you see your own technique (which often looks very different to how you imagined it) but with my analysis that gets right to the root of the problem, you will understand it far better and be able to do something about it.

Seeing is believing!

When I put the images side-by-side you can see the before and after, and you will see and believe the improvement for yourself. Too many players hit one bad shot and lose confidence in a new technique that, if they stuck with, would really benefit them in the long term. I find that seeing the improvement gives players the confidence to stick with it and get the results they want.

If you are ready to improve then do something about it. Come and see me and your game will improve.

All the fittings being delivered on Monday. I have a local carpet fitter, who has a reputation for being excellent, waiting to start. He told me it will be his first time carpeting a ceiling though and is just trying to get his head around where to put his gripper rods! Actually it will all be glued on and I can't wait!

Golf tuition definitely yes, but hopefully you won't need our help with the defibrillator training Abbie and I received yesterday!

Usually it's just a broken down trolley or the like, but on a serious note the pro shop is normally the first point of contact with any type of emergency on the course - so if you ever do need our assistance you know where we are.

If you didn't know already, a defibrillator is a device that emits an electric shock for the purpose of re-starting a person's heart, and the club now has one located in the spike bar. The speed at which treatment is given to a person who needs it can be the difference between life and death.

One of the most important pieces of information we learnt yesterday and one which may surprise you is that the chances of survival of a person whose heart has stopped depreciates by 10% per minute. If you consider it may take an ambulance 10 to 15 minutes to get here the chances of survival are not good. If a patient receives treatment from a defibrillator in let's say 5 minutes their chances of survival are drastically better. So in this scenario the first call you make should be to us or at least some member of staff at the club, and the second should be 999 for an ambulance.

On a lighter note, this wanted poster has been brought to my attention this week.

Take note Tony Barnes there is a reward for harnessing this bandit who has so far roamed freely at Reddish Vale.

Do you recognise him?

And you may wonder who has created this and put so much thought in?

You may be surprised that Zube Aziz has made this effigy of Brian Cole, you know Zube who made 49 points a couple of weeks ago!

Saturday's 3 Man Texas Scramble was won by Paul Mumford, Geoff Loughlin and Tom Arden with a score of 50, beating Bill Coll, Duncan Cheslett and Alan Malone on a countback. Third this week was Anthony Lyon, Keith Lyons and Les Jones with 50.8. Many people came in after their round and commented on how good the condition of the course is for this time of year. Your comments have been passed onto Nick so thank you.

Sunday's Pro's Stableford was won by Greg Knight with 41 points, Dave Barrett finished second with 40 points beating Chris Shaw on countback. There were eight twos each worth £7.60. Click here for the full results.

Was Yousaf won Wednesday's Pro's Stableford with 40 points, with Zube Aziz second and ready for another handicap chop with 39 points. There were four twos each worth £7.75. Click here to see the full results.
