Competition results

September Medal – 26th September

Dean Martin played sublime golf and recorded a score he said ‘had been coming for some time’. The 66 less 2 for a nett 64 won division 1 and also best gross.

Div 1. Dean Martin 66-2=64
Div 2. Stewart Flint 81-13=68cpo
Div 3. Pete Simister Snr 90-22=68

Pro’s Stableford Qualifier - Sunday 27th September

Neil Watts’s 42 points is the highest winning score in a Pro’s Stableford for some time so well played Neil. Neil has invested in new equipment and also done some work on his swing recently so I am pleased it is paying off.

Brendan Hawkins had a hole-in-one at the 9th so wins half the 2s pot, a total of £24, the other 2s were worth £4 each.

Knock-Outs

It was finals day on Sunday and all three knock-out finals were played. Well done to all who reached finals day.

Singles

Mike Radcliffe was 1 up on Stuart Wilde after the morning round, but in the afternoon Stuart said he played very well to win the match 3&2. This is the second time Stuart has won the singles knock-out in three years.

Fourball

The weather in the photo looks a bit like Tenerife and unfortunately for Dave Hamilton, that’s where his partner Colin Barr was on Sunday. Dave said he played quite well and had only dropped a couple of shots to par by the 13th where the match finished. If you are playing better-ball alone you are going to be up against it. Jason Leech and Paul Bruckshaw said they played well and took no chances.

Foursomes

This was a very close match and the golf was of a high standard. Dean and Swifty went into a three-hole lead after just seven holes, but The Captain and Simon Mulvey turned it round with three birdies in five holes, coming at the 8th, 9th and 12th to level the match. Swifty holed a crucial 20-footer on the last green, which left The Captain needing to hole a 10 footer to win the match 1 up – which he did. Dean said he and Swifty were round in 1 over par gross but didn’t mind losing to such good golf from their opposition.

New buggies

Last week we received a fleet of six new buggies as the previous buggies were in need of replacement. We now have six buggies instead of the previous four so you should find it easier to book a buggy in future.

Did you know?

We offer members a special discounted rate of 20 buggy hires for £220. This must be paid in advance and nets the cost of buggy rental down to a mere £11 per round. 

The old fleet of buggies was removed by the same vehicle that brought the new ones, and I doubt you will be sorry to see the back of buggy 1! If you didn’t know, buggy 1 had an affliction most buggy hirers would dread, because it always had a delay of a good few seconds between the accelerator being applied and the buggy setting off. If you ever had the buggy you will know what I am talking about. It could be quite irritating and I must admit I used buggy 1 rather than rent it out quite a lot. If I was going out teaching, perhaps with a lady sitting next to me, when the buggy was slow to move I would always say something along the lines of ‘come on silly buggy’ but I must admit the rest of the time I was saying something else!

It didn’t bother everyone though, and if hired to someone with the patience of a Saint, it would do just fine. Take Steve Bardsley for example, he played a round on buggy 1 recently and found it absolutely fine made no comment at all, well done Steve.

Three times the buggy went back to Yamaha to be repaired, and three times the buggy initially seemed better but very quickly reverted back to its old ways. I remember the first time it went back it was driven onto the back of the truck, and the truck wouldn’t start…

Anyway, we have a new buggy 1 and old buggy 1 has gone!

Golf on Tour

The big guns return

It’s been a strange year for the European Tour so far. Cancelled events, rescheduled tournaments and even new tournaments created. The pandemic hit the Tour hard and with relatively modest prize money on offer in the past few months, many of Europe’s biggest names have been Stateside.

This week will be different, though. The likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Ian Poulter will return for the Scottish Open following the conclusion of the big-money FedEx Cup and the U.S. Open. It should be an exciting week of top-quality golf in East Lothian. We can’t wait!

Getting it right
