Yorkshire vs. Cheshire under 16’s

On Monday Daniel played for Cheshire under 16’s against Yorkshire under 16’s at York Golf Club. It was a bit of an early start but we were there at 8.05am, first on the practice ground. I had the pleasure of a day walking 36 holes around York Golf Club (which is at Strensall, a course I last played about 15 years ago) watching Daniel’s two matches.

Daniel played very well in the morning foursomes with he and his partner winning 6&5, the strength of Daniel’s tee shots made the difference early on and the Yorkshire pair were under pressure from the first tee. The morning foursomes went okay but ended up 3 ½ - 2 ½ to Yorkshire. To be fair Yorkshire is such a massive county with so many good players this is not bad.

In the afternoon singles Daniel was playing a one handicap player, there are no shots in county matches they are played off scratch. Daniel gave his opponent a little too much respect early on and was two down after eight, but grew in confidence, played very well and birdied 4 of the final 7 holes to win 3&1 – with birdies at the 13th, 14th, 16th and 17th to finish the match.

Well played to the whole team as Cheshire won the afternoon singles and defeated Yorkshire by three points overall to win the match. This was quite an achievement, the mood in the camp was buoyant and it was a pleasure to be there.

Junior Coaching

Junior coaching resumes on Sunday 30th August. We do have quite a strong couple of groups but there is always room for more. If you would like further details or to register children for the coaching please contact us in the Pro Shop. I am keen to bring the next wave of juniors through so please bring your children along.

Busy week of golf…

We have had a very busy and successful week of competitions including The Captain’s Fundraiser, The Norman Pike and The Reddish Vale Trophy. There are loads of results to tell you about so here we go;

President’s Prize

Lee Addison has won the play-off with Lee McLachlan and has won The President’s prize so congratulations to Lee. If you attend this Saturday’s presentation meeting at 6.00pm you can see the prizes presented, get your free pint and hear the speeches.

Norman Pike Trophy

Jon Milner ‘The Tash Man’ won Saturday’s Norman Pike with a fantastic score of 71-6=65. Jon said he played very well and was one under par gross after 14 holes. Jon’s tee shot went out of bounds at the 15th and Jon said he held it together well under the pressure of the last few holes. Jon tells me he will be there on Saturday to receive his prize.

Twos on Saturday were worth £8.78 each.

Wednesday Section Stableford - Wednesday 19th August

Lee Addison will be grateful that Lee McLachlan didn’t play in their play-off the way he did the following day. Lee McLachlan’s shot 2-under-par gross off his 8 handicap must be the best round of the year so far. Lee said that it felt easy, he was totally relaxed and he thoroughly enjoyed the round.

Division One - Lee McLachlan - 46 points.
Division Two - Cole Parkinson - 38 points.
Division Three - Tommy Martin - 38 points.

Golf on Tour

It's about to get interesting

The Northern Trust begins this week, marking the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs on the PGA Tour. The event, held at TPC Boston, will be followed by the BMW Championship before culminating in Atlanta at The Tour Championship. It’s a hell of a payday for the winner ($15 million), as well as a lot of prestige; joining a list of golf’s modern greats.

Justin Thomas has already wrapped-up the $2 million Wyndham Rewards prize for the best regular-season player, with PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa finishing second. Thomas will be hoping to join Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods as the only players to win the FedEx Cup multiple times (both have won it twice), but it won’t be easy.

It's great to see
