Club news

Saturday competition vouchers

This year we have been unable to present Saturday competition vouchers in the usual way at a meeting. All Saturday/Major competition vouchers dating from Saturday 16th May, up to and including the men’s stableford on Saturday 4th July have now been released onto the winner’s accounts in the Pro Shop. During this period, we haven’t lost a single competition and entries have been a record high.

Many have already spent their winnings in the shop thank you, but because of this year’s unusual circumstances you may have won a prize you are unaware of. Please click here and take a look at the list which shows all voucher winners.

Pro’s Stableford – Sunday 19th July

Well played Luke Parkinson whose 43 points won by three. Luke has really improved over the last few weeks and his handicap is now 12. Second is also worth a mention this week; recently re-joined Les Hattersley scored 40 points and is playing to his newly allocated handicap with ease.

1st - Brian Douglas - 42 points.
2nd - John Devenney Jnr - 39 points.
3rd - Ryan Swift - 37 points (CPO).

Wednesday Section Chairman’s Prize - Wednesday 22nd July

1st - Cole Parkinson - 79-14=65 – Well played Cole your handicap will be chopped again!
2nd - Andy Hutchison - 74-6=68.
3rd - The President - 83-14=69 (CPO).

Twos value - £7.23 each.

Divoting

Trevor Bate is looking for volunteers to assist with a regular divoting party to help maintain the standard of the course. It’s not too bad really, just filling divot marks with some sand and seed to help them recover faster. Last week the junior section helped out with some devoting on the top five, I think it’s meet up at about 9.00am for holes 13 and 14 on Thursday morning next week.

The studio is open again for lessons, club fittings, gapping sessions, practising and all the rest! Lots of people have been making the most of it improving their game and upgrading their kit. Please contact me to book in.

Golf on Tour

Tiger returns!

Tiger Woods made his return to golf at The Memorial Tournament, playing at a Jack Nicklaus-designed course alongside Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka. That’s pretty cool!

Muirfield Village, better known as Jack’s Place, proved to be a brutal beast. 3-over was enough to make the cut and even-par enough for a share of 10th, with even the world’s best notching double and triple bogeys.

Jon Rahm became just the second Spaniard in history, behind Seve Ballesteros, to become World No.1 after a convincing victory in Ohio. Despite going +5 on Sunday’s back-nine, Rahm cruised to a three-stroke win.

Rahm’s final score of -9 will not jump off the page of PGA Tour winners, but numbers could never tell the story of just how much Jack’s Place demanded.

Gapping: How, what & why?

How well do you know each club in your bag? Perhaps more importantly, how well do you know your entire set? Your clubs are not individual tools, so it's always useful to look at them as a set to identify any problematic areas.

We’ve all taken out the wrong club from time to time and found ourselves hitting far too long or too short. The frustration is unrivalled!

By coming for a gapping session, you'll leave with the knowledge of how far each club in your bag actually travels. Wave goodbye to the plus or minus 10-yard guesses!

This sort of knowledge will fill you with confidence that you have the right club in your hand, whether laying-up off the tee or attacking a flag.

A good side note of coming for a gapping session is that we will find any yardages that you don't have covered, as well as any clubs that go the same distance - a real waste!
