Drone footage

You may have seen some of the drone footage of the course on Facebook recently. I saw this picture of the 16th green only this morning and I have a new screen saver! Doesn’t it look fantastic; there aren’t many golf holes like that. If you are on Facebook take a look at the clubs Facebook page, it is changing all the time and if you can share the posts you are helping promote the club.We have been taking some visitors at off-peak times and last week I welcomed lots of guests to the club, many of which had never played here before and I can tell you the feedback from them was first class.

Where’s this?

Three weeks ago I sent out this picture and asked where it was taken. Thank you for the replies but I only had one correct one. Well done to Terry Kemp who identified the piece of land on the right as being what is now our 14th hole. The picture is taken from somewhere to the left of what is now the 14th tee and looks over ‘Brinny beach’ and along the river. Sorry this result and other comp results haven’t been on sooner but I have been simply run off my feet for two weeks and I would estimate the phones have rung over 100 times a day! We are trying to recoup for the losses of the past few weeks.

Competition results

Needless to say we have had very high entries in all competitions. Danny Wilkinson’s 39 points just pipped Brian Fitzsimmons on Saturday, with both scores of 39 points coming from early morning players before the wind really picked up. Good to see Lewis Cooper back at the club and Lewis is quickly back in the prizes with his 38 points.

2’s were worth £9.66 on the day.

Pro’s running stableford

Thank you for magnificent support over the bank holiday weekend. We had 125 entries in The Pro’s Comp; so the number of prizes and pay outs were good. Have a look at the list of prizes by clicking here.

Remember the Pro’s competitions are open to all club members with a handicap, and it’s a pleasure to see the names of men, ladies and juniors up there in the prizes.

Golf Lessons

I have been absolutely inundated with lesson requests from new and existing customers. All being well, I plan to resume coaching next week, with all the safety guidelines such as being outside and with social distancing adhered to of course. I will contact regulars and offer them their usual slots over the next week.

Club Fittings

Although the swing studio remains closed at the moment, I can now do club fittings outside. And yes I can take the GC2 launch monitor outside if you didn’t know; it can fit neatly into a golf bag.You can hit a shot, look at the figures displayed on the screen of the GC2 immediately after impact, then watch the remaining flight of the ball do exactly as the GC2 said! It’s the proof of how accurate the machine is indoors too.

As a sport, golf has been given the green light ahead of the vast majority of others.

So, when you do get back out on the course, there's a good chance those crumpled up gloves at the bottom of your bag will need replacing.

Thoughts for the course

Home advantage is a phenomenon across most sports. In golf, playing a competition or match on a course you know like the back of your hand has obvious benefits. However, when playing a hole for the hundredth time, it’s easy to fall into the trap of playing it the same way you always have. But, what if there’s another way?

Risk and reward - take on the challenge?

This is where the question of risk and reward comes in.

Does the potential risk of bringing danger into play, be it trees or hazards, outweigh the potential reward?

Next time you’re standing on the tee, weigh up the potential risks and rewards of pulling out your driver. Don’t just think about avoiding doubles and trebles, consider the potential birdie or scoring 3-points. Likewise, if you struggle with a particular tee-shot, think about alternative ways to play that hole.

Confident in the challenge?
