Room with a view

The most common complaint I hear about indoor swing rooms is that they are claustrophobic. Some do not have windows and are really shoe horned into tight spaces.

Our swing studio doesn’t feel cramped at all because it’s a generously sized room and with the club house dating from around the 1850’s, the ceilings are high - a nice mix of history and cutting edge technology really! And I would say the swing studio also has the ‘best view in the house’ looking out over the 18th and down the hill.

The GC2 launch monitor works off photos of the ball in the first few inches of flight. From the speed and spin of the ball, the monitor knows exactly where the ball will finish and traces it onto the screen. If I take the monitor outside it works just the same. You can play a shot, look immediately at the stats on the monitor and watch the ball do exactly that in flight!

If you wish to experience the swing studio for practice I recommend you book in early as it gets well booked up at the weekends. Last week I had several golfers from other local clubs come and use it, as well as many members of Reddish Vale, thank you for that!

Club fitting

Last year the Ping G410 was by far our best-selling iron. I custom fitted several players and quite a few with graphite shafts in irons. I can tell you all of those players are very satisfied with their current irons and not one person has expressed an ounce of regret in buying Ping G410’s.

A couple of weeks ago I fitted a player who was replacing a set of irons from the late 1980’s. Modern 7 irons average around 30 yards further than a 7 iron from 30 years ago! Yes, the lofts have become stronger but they have also become much better balanced so they also hit the ball straighter. To prove this the side spin of a modern iron averaged around a third of that of the 30 year old club; which was not a blade but a primitive form of cavity back. This player will need to get used to the new distances being achieved, but this is a nice problem to have.

I must say the new range of Titleist irons performs extremely well. The T300 replaced the old AP1 and this iron is a very forgiving club which seems to give a very consistent flight.

I played 18 holes of golf this week for the first time in a while. My swing was a little rusty but I am very pleased that my shoulder was okay and also with the forgiveness of my new Ping i210’s which really helped at times!

Must admit I also put a new Titleist TS2 driver in the bag in stiff flex which felt great. If anyone wishes to borrow it, it’s like a new demo and I can put a regular flex shaft in if you prefer!

We take subs payments in The Pro Shop if this is more convenient for you. You can use plastic and of course, we are open 7 days a week so any day is a good day!

First time for everything!

Saturday – No competition due to weather – only the first Saturday comp we have lost this winter!

Sunday & Wednesday Stablefords

Both these competitions went ahead despite wet conditions. Chris Byrne and Ade Ord were this week’s winners with scores of 43 and 39 points respectively.
