The worse the weather the busier the swing studio!

I saw two golfers (outside) in three days after Sunday’s storm. But this last week has been a busy one upstairs with club fittings, lessons and hires.

I have just taken this picture of Ian practising on the 7th hole which is a par 3 at Royal Birkdale.

It’s only an 8 iron to warm up with off the forward tee and then you can go from further back if you like, or there are about another 80 par 3’s to choose from.

The par 3’s at Celtic Manor are excellent too with loads of water but don’t worry you won’t lose a single ball and the river never comes over in the swing studio!

The GC2 is easy to operate and you won’t want to come out, contact us to book in.

Fitting news

Club fitting

No other manufacturer has the same fitting standards as PING – it’s a fact and I’ll tell you why. PING pride themselves on supplying correctly fitted golf clubs more than any other brand.

Did you know? PING don’t want their clubs sold online under any circumstances because they know this offers no correct fitting process and an inferior service to customers.

PING do not want the brand devalued in this way and if it costs them sales they don’t care. Not many companies like them!

I wonder how many different specs in a set of PING irons are possible? Hard to work out but there are eight different types of head with G400, G410, i210, i500, G700, G710, Blueprint and the GLe (ladies). Then there are 10 different lie angles, six different grip sizes, and all the different shafts and shaft flexes. Then, of course, there are right and left-handed, and then all the different lengths of shaft the answer is quite a few!

We have most demo kits available to us including the new G710 iron so feel free to give them a go or book a fitting.

I have just got myself a set of i210 by the way! Of course, my golf is very limited these days and I need all the forgiveness I can get, but don’t we all and I can tell you I am very pleased with them!

Course news

Blocked drains

The greens staff have been very busy this week pumping water off the 7th and 14th again, but I am pleased to tell you they have done a great job and pretty much shifted it.

Aaron had a digger all last week and used it to dig out some blocked drains on some of the wettest parts of the course. Aaron cleared a blocked drain close to the 9th tee and another behind the 17th green. Aaron had the digger mostly on the 13th fairway which has been extremely wet this winter.

The problem was eventually traced to a blocked pipe which you can see in the photo. This is not an old pipe either, but as you can see this has been completely blocked by a tree root, you can see some of the roots projecting from the holes in the pipe. This pipe was close to the silver birch closest to the big old bunker short right of the 15th green.

Wednesday’s Stableford

One disadvantage of living near Glossop is the traffic, another can be the weather and sometimes you get both at the same time. While Reddish was basking in the sunshine (maybe a slight exaggeration), Glossop was white with snow. Someone forgot to grit Mottram Moor which was impassable with vehicles littered everywhere and the schools were closed. So my Wednesday didn’t start too well but thanks to the players who entered my Wednesday Stableford once I had made it in!

1st – Gary Brown – 41 points
2nd – Alan Finney – 39 points (CPO)

Two = £11.00 – Gary Brown again!
