Juniors 

Congratulations to our Junior section who have had a very successful year. Having already won the Derbyshire and Cheshire League, we beat Bramhall 3-2 in the Derbyshire and Cheshire League’s Knockout Final to ‘do the double’. The final was played at Hazel Grove Golf Club a week last Sunday and to be honest, it was an easy win, the scoreline flattered Bramhall as we conceded the last point when we knew the match had already been won.

Thank you to Hazel Grove for being the neutral venue that hosted the event, sorry that you nearly had a bronze trophy smashed through a plasterboard ceiling when raised (Daniel still hasn’t realized how much he has grown recently) but luckily must have hit a joist and we got away with it.

This will be old news to some of you who have already admired the fine trophy which has been on display in The Pro Shop for about the past two weeks.

Rain stops play 

The rain of the last week has taken its toll on the amount of golf possible as you will see in the results section. The level of the river reached the bridge on Sunday afternoon and as you can see in these photos the river did breach in the usual place on the 7th but only slightly and did not come right across the fairway; so I feel we have got away with this one for now. The greens staff were on the case at first light the following morning, pumping away the flood which had soon gone.

Two players went out when the river was very high on Sunday afternoon and someone asked me ‘what if they got cut off by the river?’ Well, you would have two options and you would have to do whatever you felt safer. Either take on the swollen river with your Electric trolley and everything and swim for it or go through Brinnington? It’s up to you.

On a more serious note, I heard this week about two local clubs which are merging to form one, and selling some of their land in order to keep going. Both of these clubs are known for being wet courses and I wonder how much this year’s flooding has affected them. I am not going to name them as I haven’t seen anything official yet, but it doesn’t surprise me because these are the times we are living in and golf clubs are having to take increasingly drastic action in order to survive.

Indoor Golf

The worse the weather, the busier the Swing Studio. You can play golf or practice in your shirt sleeves all year round no problem.

If you wish to take lessons in the Swing Studio that is fine; four lessons for the price of three until the end of March. Lessons in the studio will reveal your swing path, clubhead speed and spin rates; everything that controls your ball flight really.

If you wish to hire the studio you can, just contact us in The Pro shop. The GC2 is easy to operate and you can enjoy playing great courses and practising playing to island greens etc You really won’t want to come out.

What's coming up?

- Saturday’s 3-Man Texas Scramble is the first of this winter’s Order of Merit events. The start sheet is full from 8.00am until 1.30pm, with only one space available in between. Remember, you accumulate points throughout the winter which will decide the overall OOM Champion come the end of March. I can remember Mick Burke just pipping Paul Bruckshaw in the final event of the winter which was The Pro’s Cross Country earlier this year.
