Captain’s Prize

The winner of this year’s Captain’s Prize will be either Vaughan Stott or Martin Holt as they tied on 135.

Martin was disappointed to have missed a short putt on the last green and thought that Vaughan had won; but remember that handicaps remain the same as in the first round for the overall prizes, so when the computer calculated the scores, the correct result is a tie.

Vaughan and Martin have arranged to play together at 1.20 on Saturday in the play-off to decide the result, so good luck to both players who should be in for the presentation at 6.00.

Love thy neighbour

There was something in the air on Saturday which was eventful to say the least, with no-less-than three altercations that I know of, two of which involved neighbours and one of which was just a waste of perfectly good beer.

The best Major Championship...

The Open has returned to Royal Portrush for the first time since 1951. The last Open there was won by Max Faulkner with a score of 3 under par; and Max pocketed £300! Not bad back then. The course and the back drop look quite amazing. I have never been there but it looks very worthwhile.

I think it will be a more experienced player who wins this week. The Open seems to have a habit of favouring older winners in recent years – I saw a statistic that Molinari was the ninth player over the age of 35 to win in the last twelve years.

Not sure who to bet on to be honest but we have an Open Sweepstake in The Pro Shop this weekend so you can win money that way!

Junior coaching

Junior coaching went well on Sunday but we always have room for more.
