I thought 44 would be enough to win Saturday's better ball stableford, as it turned 44 would have got third. Kevin Seaton and Matthew Robinson scored 45 points, and won on count back from John Schofield and Gareth Jones. Prizes go down to fourth in team competitions so making up the rest of the prizes were Paul Mumford and Brian Fitzsimmons, and Jeff Watson and Neil Blakeley who had 43's.
Captain Fantastic
Because of the amount of golf they play, most Captain's reduce their handicap during their year of office. John Seaton however began the year feeling his handicap had become too low off 6, and has spent much of the season with handicap creeping upward. Anyway, late in the season it has all changed this week. John won Sunday's stableford with an exceptional 40 points in windy conditions, and also incidentally scored one of only three 2's on the day which were worth £22 each! On Wednesday John asked me if his handicap would be reduced and I said 'oh yes'. John entered the stableford anyway, and scored 38 points off 8 handicap to win again, with a round that included another hole in 2 at the fourth!
I can't remember a back to back winner of my Pro's stableford, but that is exactly what The Captain has achieved this week. And I don't think John will mind me mentioning that it's his birthday on Sunday, and believe it or not he'll be 66! And John's new exact handicap? 6.6!

Drowned to victory
And if you thought it was windy here, spare a thought for a group of our members who went to play Silloth on Sunday! It's a great course but I believe it was so windy that even Ade Ord's shouting at himself was completely drowned out by the wind, a total of only four players made it round the course and Ade himself won with 16 points!
Presentation
Last week's meeting was a very well attended one, excellent entertainment and pictured is John Schofield receiving his trophy as winner of the singles knock out from The Captain.
John is clearly an excellent match player and this is the second time in four years John has won the singles knock out.
I am pleased to tell you The Captain has released all vouchers which are now on your accounts in The Pro Shop. Thank you to The Captain as vouchers being spent promptly helps me and needless to say is good for the winners too.
Thank you to the vast majority of members who do spend their credit promptly, and also those who spend it before they've even got it!

Winter rules
Winter Order Of Merit - I shall run this throughout the winter like last year. I think you all know what it is now, in case you don't here is a quick rundown; Points are awarded according to your finishing position in the Saturday competition each week, and they count to an overall prize at the end. It is possible to accumulate points quickly, some events will be double points and so this ought to maintain your interest until the conclusion. Last year the prize at the end was split between joint winners Paddy Weadick and Alan Finney who received £95 each.
