Saturday night British summer time begins!

Don't forget to set your clock because this means the golf season has begun. Lighter nights mean more time to play golf. If you have a spare hour, come up and play the top five or invest some time on the practice ground. Do practice the right things though - of course we are here later in summer and have more time for outdoor evening lessons.

Pro's Cross Country

Don’t go to the first tee at your tee time tomorrow because you will find it deserted – head to the 6th instead. Tomorrow’s Cross Country is a 16 hole par 64 course consisting of five par 3’s, six par 4’s and five par 5’s. If you have played in previous cross country events you may have played some of the holes before but there are at least two new variations. The format is a 1, 2, 3 to count Stableford and this year we are just adding the Stableford points in the usual way – should be enough fun without the multiplication. I am confident the course will be a fair but stringent examination so full handicap is right. At present there are 114 players on the sheet for tomorrow so a superb turnout, thank you. If you wish to play, either put your name in a blank tee slot on BRS and people will probably join you – or call us in the Pro Shop on 01614 803824.

Anyway I hope you enjoy the course which we are going to laser and set out later this afternoon and good luck!

Winter Order Of Merit

The Cross Country is the final event in The Winter Order Of Merit, so winter handicaps still apply tomorrow. The OOM leader is Paul Bruckshaw who is playing tomorrow, and with this one event left there are four people who in theory could still win/jointly win the Order Of Merit. Mick Burke, Sean Connell and Andy Humphrey are the other three. Sean has Mother’s Day responsibilities this weekend and can’t play, Andy Humphrey is playing in the same team as Paul Bruckshaw so can’t possibly catch him (things can get tactical wonder if Brucky arranged this one?) but maybe Mick Burke can still do it, Mick is playing with Fionn Davenport and Richard Capener tomorrow.

Captain’s Drive-In

I would like to wish our incoming Captain’s well for their Drive-In on Sunday and for their year ahead. Please come along and support The Captain’s who Drive-In at 1.00pm. The Captain’s shotgun competition at 1.30pm is the busiest one I have seen to date with no fewer than 22 teams.

Having plenty of time to play golf is one factor that really helps when you’re The Captain of a golf club; so being the club member who plays the most rounds of golf in a season I think David Hamilton will fit the bill very well indeed.

Linsy Warburton has been Lady Captain before so knows what being Lady Captain and Driving-In is all about. Linsy is already organising a Ladies Taster day on Sunday 19th May so that ladies can come along and see what it’s all about.

My son Daniel is looking forward to Driving-In as Junior Captain. Daniel has lots of golf to play and much to look forward to this year. Daniel is aware that part of his role of Junior Captain is to help us increase participation in The Junior Section. Things like making the younger Juniors feel welcome and playing golf with them as they come through.

2019 should be a great golfing year ahead.
