River bursts its banks...

Saturday was so wet the greens were already under water at 7.30am, so there was no competition and things got worse as the day went on. The river burst its banks at about 3.00 and as you can see there was a lot of flooding.

Amazingly, most of the water had disappeared by the Sunday morning and the Pro’s Stableford went ahead over 15 holes. The 7th had the large flood in the usual place and the 14th and 15th were closed because the river had left flooding/all sorts of debris and silt all over the place including on the green and in the bunkers.

Anyways, it is clear that the drainage work of the last few years is paying dividends, and Nick, Justin and the lads have done a sterling job of tidying up the mess. Monday’s seniors work party also took part in the clean-up operation and considering the scene on Saturday afternoon things have recovered amazingly quickly.

Getting back to where they were before the flooding, Nick cut the shape of the bunker faces in the newly laid turf around two of the bunkers by the 5th green on Thursday, and I would say they definitely look the part; I am sure you will agree another success.

The bunkers are MacKenzie design in shape, with sand high up the faces giving the golfer far more visual perception of their depth. Depth dives a bunker power because the deeper the bunker the less desirable place from which to play your next shot. Today was Nick’s last day as Head Greenkeeper so thank you to Nick for his hard work and phenomenal achievements over the last few years. Best Wishes to Nick for the future.

Mike Canning’s final presentation is tomorrow evening at 5.00. Please turn up wearing jacket and tie to collect your prizes. And if you have won zero prizes it’s always an entertainment so please still turn up to enjoy the banter. Hope to see you there.

If you haven’t yet paid your subs we can take your payment in The Pro Shop. The easiest way is by debit card which only takes a minute. If you prefer the more traditional methods you are welcome to leave a cheque and we will pass it on.

Knockout deadline

The last day to enter this year’s knock out competitions is Wednesday 10th April. Quite a few entries have already been taken thank you, so if you have not yet entered and wish to play, please enter as soon as possible. We are taking entries for the singles, the Fourball (better ball) and the foursomes (alternate shots). Derek plans the draw for the first round matches to take place on Thursday 11th April.
