Greetings from Andrew Myers
Reddish Vale Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Europe on Top Of the World!

The European players didn't hold back at Gleneagles and gave the American's a real beating, winning 16 1/2 to 11 ½. It was great to watch such great golf being played. The atmosphere around the Ryder Cup is nothing but surreal. As you can see Mike Thompson went up to watch, and was caught on camera celebrating another holed European putt - this one from Justin Rose. Great celebration Tomo!

Local Boy Jamie Donaldson had an impressive Ryder Cup and hit an incredible shot in to clinch the winning point for Europe. Jamie was asked if it had sunk in that he won Europe's winning point, his reply 'No I'm still drunk from last night.' It's safe to say they partied like champions.

Proquip - New stock

Proquip and Glenmuir were the official suppliers for European team wear at Gleneagles, and I am able to get hold of the replicates, so if you want some book now as stock is limited. I have new stock of the latest Proquip waterproofs with 3 year guarantee in now.

Proquip also have a wide range of weather beaters, with waterproofs suits, water repellent jumpers to t-shirts. Have a look in store, if not check out their brochure and I will order them in for you.

Stuburt Clothing - New stock

The temperature is just about to drop so I have some lined sweaters which are lovely and warm for only £39.99. They are available in Grey, Black or Blue. Also the Stuburt Sport Jacket, lightweight and only £34.99 also available in grey, black or blue.

Knock Outs

Sunday was finals day and John Schofield won the Singles KO for the second time with a 6&5 win (36 hole contest) over Andy Covell. John was 2 up after 18 but Andy's wheels had come off quite literally in the morning. Andy borrowed some tools from The Pro Shop and spent the break between the two rounds fixing his broken trolley which I believe performed well after lunch. John last won the singles for the first time back in 2011, and has found his form again recently to win again.

The European's struggled in the Fourball this year, but the duo of Paul Temple and Danny Goodwin were on form and just pipped Tony Barnes and Andy Hutchison on the 18th to win the KO. The final of the foursomes which is Vaughan Stott & Porkster Houghton v Bradley Brokenbrow & Liam Houghton is on Sunday.

Exchange Day

Saturday's exchange day with Didsbury golf club went well here, with 95 experiencing the fantastic course we have. I try to ask as many visitors as possible about their experience after their rounds, and try to get honest and not just polite responses! Of course this can be tainted by how people have played on the day, but the Didsbury members seemed a genuine crowd. I can tell you that as usual they did not like the hill. However, they were very complimentary about the condition of the course, the speed of the greens, how many good and interesting holes there are, and several who had not played here before commented that they were very pleasantly surprised by the general layout and how the course was nothing like what they were expecting. One player was quick to ask about membership when I asked him about his round, and I believe that he and a friend have already joined.

The winner of our individual stableford was Duncan Cheslett with 38 points. Duncan set himself the target of getting down to 12 by the end of the season, and with a late flurry of great scores resulting in an 'exceptional scores' reduction he has done just that. Les Jones was second with 36 points and Lee Addison finished 3rd with 35 points on countback from four other players.

Pro's Stableford

Even on Ryder Cup Sunday 50 players still played in my Pro's Stableford, which was won this week by Ray Juskiw. It is good to see Ray back playing good golf again after a long lay-off through injury last year. Ray's 40 points beat Barry Hammond on countback of the back 6 holes. Well done Ken Jones who must have played exceptionally to score 39 points. The prizes went down to 5th this week, and there were five two's each worth £10. Click here to see the full results.

Wednesday's comp was the final qualifier of this year, this week's competition was a medal, the winners were Craig Davies with 75-7=68 who won division 1, division 2 was won by Simon Nicholls with 79-13=66, winning on a countback from Steve Marsh and division 3 was won by Mike Thompson, freshly inspired by European success with an incredible score of 81-17=64.

There is no Wednesday competition next week as we are hosting a Manchester and District alliance. After this there is usually a couple of spirit comps before we go into the winter and pro's stablefords on Wednesdays from the yellow tees.

Ladies Knock Out

Congratulations to Jeanette Kinder winning the Ladies Singles Knockout, beating Lindsey Warburton in a tight match on the19th.

Thank you to Sheila Cowlard and Mal Woodcock who attended and helped out at Sunday's ladies coaching which went very well with yet more new lady golfers. Next coaching session is on Sunday at 12.00 - all ladies welcome.

I have just taken delivery of some ladies starter packs which arrived today. This was end of season clearance product which of course will be passed on so I can supply 6 clubs (5 with graphite shafts) and a stand bag for £89!! And they are Ben Sayers not Donnay!
