This Sunday I will be running the weekly ladies group coaching session at 12.00. The coaching will carry on until at least 1.00 and although this is now quite a big group, any ladies who would like to join in are more than welcome. The Ladies coaching has taken off really well and so far we have 6 new members as a direct result of this. Now is the time for any ladies who fancy having a go!
Junior 'coaching' is also on Sunday afternoon and begins at 2.00. As in previous junior gatherings, any juniors are welcome to turn up on the day where they will be organised into groups and take on a range of shots before playing the top 5 which is set up into par 3's. Most juniors who attend are aged from about 8 to 12 so it is quite a young group - parents are encouraged to attend.
Group coaching is good for basic instruction and for people making friends and getting to know each other. However, when groups become too large (say 10 people or more) it is a nice problem to have, but my time with each pupil is reduced.
I do coaching plans for any number of players, so for those who would like to improve their skills faster and receive more tuition please contact your Pro Shop to book individual lessons or for groups of say 2, 3 or 4.
The Ryder Cup is finally under way. I don't know how it could possibly be as exciting as Medinah, which for me was the greatest sporting spectacle that I have witnessed but you never know what will happen. Personally, I can't see the European's being beaten.
Vaughan Stott has won The Victory Trophy after Saturday's play-off with Jamie Greig. Vaughan had recently likened himself to Greg Norman in the sense that both had a play-off record of played four and lost four.
Vaughan was determined not to make it five and played well with birdies at holes 7,8, 10 and 11. Jamie also played well and things were tight until they reached the 17th tee where Jamie had the misfortune to hit three in the river and walk off with 10. Vaughan's is pictured at last week's presentation meeting, curse broken.
I thought Saturday's 2 man Texas scramble was a good idea and I think people generally enjoyed it. The winning score was from the in-form Mike Radcliffe and Phil (not the Porkster) Houghton (handicaps of 5 and 11) with 56.4.
Jeff Crewdson blew the field away in Sunday's stableford scoring 42 points. For the full results click here.
Gary Hill is down to 3 after scoring 41 points on Wednesday which won Division 1. Bob Kelsall won division 2 with 36 and Duncan Cheslett division 3 with 37.
Support your pro
Thank you to the vast majority of club members who support their Pro. Hopefully you can see my long term plan of improvement and how this will benefit the golf club. Every penny you spend in the shop whether it's a competition entry, a chocolate bar or a new set of irons - is another penny that I can invest back into the club. The club is moving very much in the right direction so please do all that you can to be a part of the team and get behind it.
Council Day out
Last Sunday 27 of us played golf at Rossendale Golf Club. Rossendale is a course in a lovely area, with a nice clubhouse and some good holes.
I think playing on other golf courses makes you appreciate how lucky we are to be blessed with a golf course which is as much fun and in as good condition as Reddish Vale.
The team of Mike Radcliffe, Fiona Andrew, Alan Malone and Bill Coll won The Colin Harvey Trophy with a score of 86 points.
