Winter Order of Merit

Saturday’s 3 Man Texas Scramble will be the start of this year’s Winter Order of Merit. Each of the Saturday competitions will count towards the order of merit from now until the end of March. I have seen a proposed list of formats and there is a good variety, finishing with our Pro’s cross country.

Titleist AVX Ball

Both the sales, and also the feedback, on the new Titleist ball are very good indeed.

Remember, this is the ‘alternative to Pro V1 and Pro V1X’ hence the name AVX. ‘It definitely flies lower and is exactly what I was looking for’ was the comment from one of our low handicap players as he bought another sleeve prior to shooting a net 68 with them last week. They feel like a PRO V but spin less (so they go straighter) and fly lower.

So if you’re playing in wind or just want a lower flight these could be for you. I often wonder what will come next and it seems the AVX is yet another advance in the evolution of the golf ball. They are in a dark green sleeve in your Pro Shop next to the PRO Vs.

Feel is everything

Hybrids are very different and finding the right one will help you. There are loads of places to use a hybrid around Reddish Vale so please take out our demos, take them around the course and put them to the test.

So far we have a 100% trial to buyer ratio on the Titleist 818 because it performs so well, and because the hybrids were adjusted and correctly fitted to the golfer. You can change the loft, the shafts, the head weights – you will see the difference in ball flight.

Ryder Cup

I really enjoyed The Ryder Cup as there was so much of drama. Greens within inches of water, pins very close to the edge and players constantly going at them made for some great entertainment.

The most important point for me was Europe’s first one, won by Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari to get the score to 3-1 down. Europe went from 3-0 down to 8-3 up! It was a fantastic team effort indeed. The Americans were saying that links courses didn’t really suit them.

A links course? Where? They were all at sea.

I wish more people had access to watching the Ryder Cup live though, and golf in general because the game needs it. 3.5 million people have Sky in the UK, and I bet most of that is for Football so what a shame that a spectacle as fantastic as the Ryder Cup is out of sight and out of mind of the masses and all those potential golfers out there.

Adie Ord

Jeff Crewdson told me that Adie is doing well after his quadruple heart bypass so that’s good news. I’m sure we would all like to wish Adie a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you back at The Vale soon.

Junior news

Junior Presentation Evening

Tuesday 9th October at 7pm is The Junior Presentation evening; which is Reddish Vale’s first for a very long time. The juniors will receive trophies and prizes for their performances in the series of competitions in the summer holidays, and also the order of merit prizes for their overall standings.

Thank you to the people who have made donations to the new junior section of the club, this has helped with the provision of new trophies and prizes. I would show you a picture but they are at the jewellers being engraved so I will do so next week.

We are also presenting awards to some of the younger juniors who regularly attend Abbie’s coaching sessions, and who we hope will progress to acquiring handicaps and playing with the existing juniors for the new trophies in next year’s series of competitions.

There will be lots of new people at the club, Mums and Dads and brothers and sisters. Anyone who would like to see the Presentation are most welcome to attend. There is no dress code.

Junior Coaching Dates

The juniors have all worked really hard this year and have been a credit to teach, they have all made great improvements this year, so it won’t be long until we have more Juniors playing on the golf course.

The coaching dates for October are as follows:

Sunday 7th October – Practice Ground
Sunday 14th October – Practice Ground
Sunday 21st October – Putting Green
Sunday 28th October – Golf Course

We are constantly looking to grow this section so please bring anyone who may be interested along to the sessions.
