The Open Championship

Carnoustie is a fantastic venue and always seems to produce a closely fought Open, this was no exception. Tiger Woods looked far more like his old self, and when he took the lead on the final day it looked like he could do it again but it was not to be.

Francesco Molinari didn’t make a single bogey on Saturday or Sunday, didn’t look nervous and thoroughly deserved his first major. I remember about 20 years ago when I was assistant at Moor Allerton one of our members, a chap called Ian Teff was very keen on his golf and spent a lot of time in Italy.

He told me of two young golfing brothers who played golf at the resort where he played and to look out for them in the future; Francesco and Eduardo Molinari. I had never heard of them then but we all have now.

The Open sweepstake

Ladies Taster Day

On Sunday we have a ladies taster day from 12 until 2 o’clock. Any ladies that are interested in playing golf or just coming up to have a look at the place will be made very welcome.

A summer of golf...

The juniors had their first competition of the summer yesterday. We had 5 juniors enter the competition as the rest are still in school. The winning score was 39 points from Daniel Myers who continues to improve, and leads the junior order of merit after the first event.

The juniors are very keen indeed, playing every day and really enjoying their golf. We have also purchased some blue Junior Tee markers for our younger juniors this week, this will provide a shorter course for the younger juniors or anyone who wishes to play from them.

Presentation

There are loads of vouchers to present at tomorrow’s presentation meeting at 6.00. Remember your jacket and tie if you are collecting a prize from The Captain, and as always everybody who attends will receive a FREE pint from the golf club on the house.
