Firm but fair

I went round the top 5 yesterday and I have never seen the course so dry, and the forecast says more warm weather to come. To stop the ball on the green I recommend you have clean grooves, especially on your wedges and use a ball with a urethane cover like a Pro V1 or a Chrome Soft because they will give you more control when you need it. I was using one of the new Titleist SM7 Vokeys which helped too, the course is great and it was a pleasure to be out playing.

US Open – Firm but fair?

Shinnecock Hills more than tested the best players in the world last week, and it’s unusual that Brooks Koepka’s one over par is good enough to win a major. Some of the players thought the course was unfair, and Phil Mickelson deliberately playing a moving ball to prevent it from rolling off the green is an act that will be remembered. Some think the rules should be changed to make the penalty greater. I think this was frustration and a momentary lapse rather than making a point.

If Phil really wanted to make a point he could have waited until it stopped rolling, declared the ball unplayable, replaced it on the green and repeated the process again and again until he holed the putt – but his score may have been much higher who knows?

US Open sweepstake

Thank you to everybody who had a go in our sweepstake on Saturday, the sheet filled up very quickly indeed. Whichever number you randomly chose corresponded to a player in the US Open, and we paid out for first, second and third.

Get in to golf

We are constantly seeking for more juniors to get into golf, we have created a programme for our juniors to learn, develop and eventually get out onto the golf course the right way. With the summer holidays in mind, now is the perfect time to get your children/grandchildren involved and become part of our junior section. Throughout the summer we have various events i.e coaching, games and getting out on the golf course and competitions for our juniors with handicaps.

Junior coaching is held every Sunday, where we learn on the practice ground, putting green and once a month we head out onto the golf course to put our new skills into practice.

Bionic Gloves – The leather ‘Stable grip’ version is back in stock in all sizes of this very effective product. A bionic glove is very helpful if you have any ailment that makes it difficult to apply pressure when you hold the club, for example arthritis. Lots of people use these who have absolutely nothing wrong with their hands; they just find it allows them to hold the club lighter. Club head speed increases on GC2 with the use of one.

Re-gripping

Having your golf clubs re-gripped really does improve your game, just ask Sheila Cowlard. Sheila had her full set golf clubs re-gripped last week ahead of the Ping Better Ball competition on Thursday. Sheila and Jeanette finished with 44 points beating Denzel and Lindsey by one shot.

On Monday our Ladies played there match at home against Sandbach where Sheila’s top form continued as she horsed her opponent 8&6. Well done to our Ladies that had a convincing win 6.5-0.5.
