Course Maintenance Week

This week Nick and his men have been hard at work with a mid-season maintenance, the greens have been micro tined, scarified, sanded and brushed. Maintenance week is a new addition this year and an opportunity for essential works to be carried out mid-season that will benefit the long term health of the greens. This year it has been a pleasure to hear all the positive comments from members and visitors regarding the excellent condition of the course and in particular the greens. This is all down to the effort of Nick and his staff. I can't wait to see how good they are going to be as Nick is determined to make them better and better.

Saturday's Captain's round 1 was called off due to flooded greens, but Sunday's round 2 went ahead. Ian Cowlard and Paul Wheelton are joint leaders each with net 65. Handicaps have arranged for the first round to be played on Saturday 16th August, the sheet will go up the week before the comp so make sure your name is down on the draw sheet to get a time you require. Remember that there are day prizes, so if you didn't play in Sunday's competition or if you did and didn't have the best of rounds, it is still well worth playing in the second one.

Presentation

The next Presentation will be tomorrow (Saturday 26th July) at 6pm. If you have won a voucher please come with your Jacket and Tie to collect your prize.

Wednesday Section Day out

Cavendish Golf Club is an excellent golf course in superb condition and if you are considering where to go for a game I would totally recommend it. The greens are excellent but did cause a few problems as they were fast and undulating. Sunshine, good company and excellent food made for a first class day out. 41 players made the trip and the competition was won by Steve Danforth with 36 points. In our Fourball Dave Sanders and John Travis got the better of Andy Hart and me with a spirited performance on the back nine. The highlight of which was John's drive at the uphill par 3 13th. The ball kicked in from the right and must have come within a whisker of a hole in one, finishing a foot or so behind the hole. John tapped it in for one of only five 2's on the day and four stableford points!

Back at Reddish we had a Pro's Stableford for the remaining golfers who didn't make the trip. 32 people entered and the winner was Brain Cole with 39 points. There were only two 2's and one would have done as both were from Mark Watkins who wins all £32. Click Here to see the full results.

Big Match

Remember today's match between Dave Sanders and Green keeper Justin (for £100 cash) tees off at 3.00. All are welcome to attend and spectate on what promises to be a tense affair.

Spot the Reddish Vale member

This picture was taken last Sunday just after Rory McIlroy won The Open, and captured the moment Rory threw the Open winning ball into the crowd. It's a great picture and as you can see several people tried to grab it. If you look closely you should be able to recognise one of the hopefuls as a member of Reddish Vale.

Still stuggling? I will help you. If you look to the right of the ball you will see what resembles a sea creature lunging out of the water to attack something. It is Duncan Cheslett.

The guy beneath Duncan who appears to have the ball dropped it a fraction of a second later under much pressure from behind, and the ball bounced around before Duncan spotted it and kindly directed the chap to it. It was a good effort though and Duncan has the scars to prove it, cutting his shin on the seat in front in the process. Daniel is pictured holding the ball which was briefly on loan.

The Open was one of the best I can remember and I enjoyed every minute of it.

There is another 'junior gathering' at 2.00 on Sunday. All children welcome and parents encouraged to attend.

New coffee machine

I have invested in a new coffee machine this week. It is a bit bigger than the old one which had started to leak so I decided to replace it. This machine grinds fresh Columbian coffee beans, has a greater choice of drinks available which I can tell you are delicious. The price has remained the same.
