Greetings golfers,

Welcome back to the weekly newsletter. This week our studio loyalty offer is back, we have some great new gear from Titleist, and as always we have a competition roundup. Enjoy the read!

Well done to Nick and his team who managed to hollow tine and dress all of the greens in two days, Monday and Tuesday, and have the course ready for Wednesday’s competition. And well done to the vast majority of members too, who seem to have come to appreciate how superb the greens are for so much of the year, and have become much more understanding of how the long term benefits of such work far outweigh the initial shortcomings.

However, by Thursday morning at 8am the river was coming over by the bridge, along the 7th and over at the 14th. I was there as the levels were still rising and the speed at which the area at the back of the 6th green filled up was quite surprising. As soon as the river level dropped, Nick and the lads have been pumping away flood water. The greens staff are always busy!

Junior Coaching Sunday 8th October

It’s back on again! At 1pm it’s beginners and at 2pm it’s the intermediate class so please bring your children along and we will keep the lessons going as long as the winter weather allows.

Saturday 30th September

The Victory Trophy requires a 3 way playoff to decide the winner. Paul Wheelton, David Pilling and Steve Smith tied on a nett score of 143 for their two rounds; the playoff between David Pilling and Steve Smith will also decide the winner of the Seniors Championship.

Well done to Paul Wheelton who has won the Club Championship (best gross) over the two rounds with 147, second is Ryan Swift with 149.

Please have a look at the presentation sheet for Saturday, which includes day prizes for Lee Costello, Peter Martin, John Northrop and Colin Leigh.

Unfortunately we had a particularly low entry in The Jubilee Trophy this year, mainly caused by poor weather on all of the days, and in particular having to re-arrange the first round which divided the weekend messed things up.


Sunday 1st October

Anthony Phillips won my Pro’s Stableford with 39 points, with Richard Howard second and Pete Lamb third, both with 36. Paul Donohue scored the only two on what was a tough day in wet conditions. Have a look at the results by clicking here.


Wednesday 4th October

Div 1 - Adam Stott - 35 points
Div 2 - John Seaton - 35 points
Div 3 - Robert Little - 37 points

Well done Robert Little who was the only player to better par on the day. Only one event left now in the Wednesday Section and it is still possible for Jason Leech to catch Ryan Jackson for the Wednesday Section golfer of the year.

As in previous years, I will be running a Pro’s Stableford (roll-up on the day, yellow tees, full handicap stableford open to all categories of member) throughout the winter. There is no minimum number to make it a competition, and as with all Pro’s comps every penny gets paid back out in vouchers.

So please come along and join in because Wednesday’s are a good day to be about the club even in the winter. If you are looking for a game please contact us in the shop and we will do our best to help you. The Pro’s stablefords will resume as soon as possible.

Presentation – Tomorrow - Saturday 7th October at 6pm

Please be there if you are on the list, having won a current voucher, or if you have an unclaimed one to collect. Or even if you would like to see others presented with their prizes, or even if it’s just for a FREE PINT?

You need to turn up wearing jacket and tie to receive your voucher from The Captain – otherwise the dress code is very relaxed.
