Course news

Pitch Marks

I talk about these too often but they are still not being repaired and still not being repaired correctly so here we go again…

Such a basic ask, but why are players not repairing pitch marks? The course is great, the greens are brilliant, so Nick is once again asking for some really basic care for the course from the members.

Which is the worst day for unrepaired pitch marks? It is Saturday. This Saturday I have been asked to hand out a ‘how to repair pitch marks guide’ with the scorecards so they are here waiting.

The key is to repair them correctly so that you push the displaced turf back over the pitch mark to where it came from. Do not get your pitchfork under the pitch mark and just lift it up. If you do this you are not moving the grass back to where it should be, but merely lifting soil to the surface, which will not result in a good recovery, but a light coloured spot on the green which will take much longer to recover.

After you have finished repairing a pitch mark it should be the same colour as the rest of the green – green. If yours are brown or earth coloured you aren’t doing it right. Please repair your pitch marks and if you notice a large unrepaired pitch mark, repair it.

New Path Now Open

John Seaton, Derek Simpkins and Greg Mitchell have been reconstructuing the path from the 16th green to the 17th tee.

As you can see from the picture, Uncle Graham says the path is now open.

Jason Leech had a stellar showing, scoring 39 points to take first, Dave Hamilton claimed second after beating Pete Lamb (3rd) and Jonathon Knight (4th) on countback, all with 38 pts.
