ONE Length Clubs?
Bryson Dechambeau and Cobra have worked together to create the ONE length set of golf clubs, with all irons being the same in length as a 7 iron. The aim was to produce a set of clubs which allowed a player to use the same posture, same set up and have the same swing plane on every shot.
It's an interesting concept and the merits sound great, and this configuration seems to work well for Bryson, but beware a conversion is not as simple as it sounds.
As we know, your irons are for gauging distances. Your irons are different lengths because this is a means of controlling club head speed and therefore controlling the distance the ball goes. The other factor of course is the different lofts on the clubface. So Bryson's irons need lofts that are spaced further apart than a normal set of golf clubs to compensate for the shafts being the same length. The lie angles are all the same too, unlike a normal set of clubs and the shafts are identical too so they all have exactly the same kick points, unlike a standard progressive set.
A well-known local retailer has recently quoted someone on having their current set made all the same length, by having the 4, 5 and 6 irons shortened, and the 8,9 and PW lengthened. It is easy to do the work and take the money for it, but do they know that the swing weights, lofts, and shaft kick points will be all over the place? To agree to take on such a task is either totally irresponsible or simply displays a total lack of understanding of how a set of golf clubs works!
You may have thought we would have been delighted to make everyone's clubs the same length, and replace the grips at the same time - but no, this is not recommended!
If you want to give the theory a go this is a new set made from scratch and so far Cobra are the only company producing them.

Update On Abbie
Abbie has recently taken her year 2 PGA coaching exams, and has done well. This involved written papers on general technique, playing specific shots, fitness and nutrition for golf, and some golf psychology. Abbie also had a practical assessment where she conducted a golf lesson to a pupil before an examiner.
Abbie is gaining an excellent knowledge of the golf swing, and experience as an instructor and is taking to it very well. I am totally confident in Abbie's ability to help you to play better golf so please book in for lessons and see for yourself.

'Massive' Tree Gone
Most of you will have seen Dave's email and know that a 'massive' tree came down in two instalments on Wednesday morning. The first half of the tree came down with a massive crash mid-morning, so I went to have a look and took the picture, below, of the tree with half of it still standing. Within seconds of me walking away after taking this picture I heard a massive crash and it had gone, taking a couple of others with it on its way down. The tree fell over the back track which had been closed after the first collapse, so thankfully no one was hurt. Nick said this was the biggest tree on the whole course.
I wouldn't like to estimate the weight of the tree but the picture with Abbie next to the remaining stump will give you an idea how 'massive' the tree was, just to the right of the 6th winter tee.
German Guests
On Sunday we welcomed back a Fourball of German visitors, booked in by a Mr. Wessel. The Fourball had been on a twelve day golfing holiday, and had booked in and played at Reddish on the first day of their break after seeing our website, and because we were close to the airport.
They had covered the West coast and played Royal Liverpool, Lhythm St Annes, Royal Birkdale, Hillside, West Lancs, and a few others, but a different one every day.
They said that out of all the courses they played, they all agreed that Reddish vale was the course they enjoyed the most, and also the course which had the best greens.

Hole In One
Well done to our greens Chairman, Jeff Stockton, who holed in one at the fourth in Wednesday's stableford. Jeff played (in his own words) 'a superbly struck 8 iron which was all over the stick from the moment it left the club'.
Other sources suggested the strike was from a little lower in the clubface than Jeff suggested, and the ball flight was also somewhat on the low side, and that the bunker well and truly flirted with the ball - but whatever it had the same outcome - and Jeff wins half the 2's pot of £35.
2's Club
Always, always, always go in the 2's club! Even if you can't reach the greens on one shot you can still reach them in two! Only this week a player decided not to enter the 2's (which I must say is most unusual) and then guess what happened? You guessed it! So a fine'2' at the 12th was worth zero - good for everyone else who got a '2' I guess.
