14th Hole
The new drains are in, two of the bunkers have had a complete makeover and as you can see there is certainly no water in the bunkers on the right of the 14th now. The new sand looks great and the approach shot from the right of the fourteenth looks less desirable than ever with those three bunkers to contend with.
10th Hole
The weather has been kind and, although hard work, the greens staff have made excellent progress on the 10th green. The turf from the lower section of the 10th green was removed before a new drain was installed, running from the front left corner of the green all the way across the front and out towards the grass bunker on the right. This is a big drain which should be able to cope with copious amounts of surface water with ease; there was approximately two feet of gravel above the pipe which you can see sticking out. The front section of the green has been slightly re-shaped so there is more camber directing water toward the drain. Nick is hopeful that this slight re-shaping, and the possibility of extending the front of the green slightly, will allow for some more pin placements, which were pretty much restricted to just the one before.
I took these pictures on Wednesday afternoon as the turf was being replaced so this is another big job which is nearing completion. It will be a while before the green can be used though, and before then the front right bunker on the 10th will also be receiving a makeover, I will keep you posted.
Christmas Draw
There are still squares available on the board in the Pro Shop, if you have not yet had a go. Last year we drew a blank square for the top prize and had to go again, so that magic square may still be there waiting?
Wednesday Stableford
Thirty four players entered Wednesday's stableford which was played in what can only be described as beautiful conditions for mid-December. If the picture below, and the earlier one's included above showing the sunlight flooding the 10th green, don't make you feel like getting out and playing golf I don't know what will. Only the 10th was on a temporary today and some great golf has been played, with David Hamilton's 67 gross (1 under gross front nine and 1 under gross back nine) for 43 points leading the way. David has just invested in a new Titleist hybrid club that you can see in the picture and David is well pleased with it.
2 From 3 Bogey
In first place were the team of Paul Mumford, Brian Fitzsimmons & Geoff Loughlin with a score of 15 up, second place went to the team of John Ford, Crispian Logue & Mike Short with a score of 11 up, and in third place were the team of Gareth Eyres, Martin McIlvenny & Graham Lees scoring 10 up (CPO).
