Wednesday Section Day Out
This year's Wednesday Section Away day is at Cavendish Golf Club on the 23rd July. This is an inspired choice of venue by Wednesday Section Chairman Alan Finney. Set in a magnificent location and only half an hour away, Cavendish at Buxton is simply a pleasure to play. Like Reddish Vale, Cavendish is both a members club and a MacKenzie design course. The course is similar in length to The Vale, and has a variety of well-designed holes to test your imagination and course management, rather than just how far you can hit it. If you haven't played Cavendish you need to.
£39 covers the day. This includes coach from the club, bacon butty and coffee/tea on arrival. Then 18 holes of golf, a meal afterwards and prizes as well. Such a ridiculous bargain I am certain this one will be very well attended! The list on the Wednesday Section board is filling up quickly so put down as soon as possible. £10 deposit required guaranteeing your place; you can pay to us in Pro Shop.
Family Fun Day
Don't forget to bring your family along to our fun day on Bank Holiday Monday 26th May.
Bank Holiday Weekend
This bank holiday weekend there will be a Pro's running stableford over Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. Come into the pro shop to get your name down for it.
I am pleased to report that our efforts to recruit some new juniors to Reddish Vale seem to be working. Lots of members have registered their children for the upcoming free golf lessons and I would like to remind you that your junior sons and daughters are now entitled to one introductory year of free membership. I have asked Nick to cut a couple of greens on the practice field, with both holes and flags, so the children will have something to aim for and can experience getting a ball into a hole.
Junior organiser Kevin Seaton will be contacting all those who have expressed an interest in the very near future. There are lots of juniors interested who don't yet know each other, so I think Kevin's plan is to bring all children/friends and parents together for a meeting, perhaps followed by a putting comp and a couple of holes. If you would like to involve your children/grandchildren, or somebody who you think would like the opportunity to have a go, please contact Kevin Seaton or myself.
Presentation Moved
The presentation meeting has been moved from Saturday 24th May to Saturday 31st May. Remember your Jacket and Tie if receiving a voucher from The Captain.
Past Captain's Trophy
The draw has been done for Saturdays Major; if you wish to check your tee time look on brs or phone us in the shop. Because this is a drawn competition, you cannot change your time once the draw has been done. And please note that if you are in the draw, you will be able to remove your name yourself but will be unable to put it back on.
There are very limited spaces available for players whom are able to make some 2's into 3 balls. Please contact The Pro Shop to do so.
New Flags
Nick has designed these new flags which look very smart. The Alister MacKenzie reference is a nice touch and the black edging is a good idea as this is where the flags become grubby when laid on the green. We look forward to seeing them out on the course soon on the big days, and Nick says that he will be camping out on the 13th to stop these disappearing!
Adam Stott
Last weekend Adam played in the Cheshire Match play at Bramhall Golf Club. His first round was a bye and second round a 5&3 win. Someone managed to take Adam to the 19th in the third round but all to no avail as Adam won again setting up a quarter final clash with Barry Barker, now of Stockport Golf Club.
Barry was 2 up with 3 to play, but Adam birdied 16 and 17 to get it back to 1 down and it was at about this point that Adam's putter caught fire. Adam holed a 40 footer at the last to go down the 19th, before holing a monster from off the green to beat Barry on the 21st.
Adam then won his Semi Final match 3&1, but had to make do with being runner up overall beaten by Alex Beasley from Mere in the final. A excellent performance of golf at a high level, well done Adam.
Saturday May Medal was played in perfect conditions, and still 90 players entered despite the trip to Conway. Gary Lardner's 38 points won on a countback from Jack Cooper who was out in 22. Paul Mumford finished third beating Graham Hadfield on a countback, both players scoring 37 points. Ian Pearson finished fifth with 36 points.
There were 15 two's on Saturday all worth £6.00 each.
Dean Martin won Sunday's Stableford with a fantastic score of 41 points. Dean who recently drifted up to 6 shot 1 over gross of 70, his personal best. Graham Parker had a good week as his 37 points finished second and included a 2 at the 9th. Rob Mahon is in the prizes again finishing third with 36 points. The prizes went down to fifth.
There were 9 two's this week worth £6.00 each. Click here to see the full results.
Wednesday's Bogey comp had 57 players; Div 1 was won by Mike Radcliffe with 2up. Pete Watson won Div 2 with 4up, this is Pete's first win at the vale, and he has now reduced from 10 to 9. And Div 3 was won by David Machin with 3up.
Two's were worth £8.14 each.
