It is very sad news this week as we have lost Malcolm Hamilton. The first time I met Malcolm was when he and Danny Goodwin interviewed me for the post of Professional here at Reddish Vale, and Malcolm began his year as captain on my second day.

It was a happy year, Malcolm was an excellent captain and I will always remember Malcolm's great sense of humour. Arnold Palmer or Palmer Arnold? Which one were you today, Malcolm?

Unfortunately we lost Arnold Palmer too this week.

Bernard Murray suggested that perhaps he and Malcolm could be talking golf somewhere, with Malcolm giving Arnie a few tips on how to play the game. I offer my sincere condolences to Moira and family.

As you know, last week I went away to Strasbourg. This trip was a chance for me to help out one of my fellow county friends, Emma Goddard, as she is on the Ladies LET Access Tour. I must admit, I really liked the look of this golf course; it was challenging but gave you lots of birdie chances.

Despite the +3 on the first day, Emma managed to come back with a -3 and -4 to finish the tournament on -4 and T15th for the week. It was great to see so many familiar faces and I have made lots of new friends. The standard of golf last week was very good and has only made me want to be out there even more.




Exchange Day with Romiley - Romiley sent 101 players to play at Reddish in a 2 from 4 stableford. 81 points won their competition; they liked the course very much and thought its condition was fantastic. Many had not played Reddish before and several people said they didn't know it was here.

9-Hole Qualifier - The next 9-hole comp is tomorrow (Friday, 30 September). Make sure you enter in the pro shop.

Juniors - There will be coaching this Sunday down on the practice ground. Again the (5-8) will be at 1pm and the (9+) will be at 3pm. Each session will last one hour and will cost £4 per child. I hope to see you there.




Sunday's Stableford - First place went to Ross Paton with 40 points, two clear of Marc Singleton in second. Simon Nicholls carded 37 points to finish third (CPO), edging ahead of Jeff Watson. Click here for the full results.

Wednesday Section - Division One was won by Paul Sloane (yet again) with a nett 67. Division Two's victor was Wasif Yousaf with a 69, the same score that Steven Smith shot to claim Division Three. 2s were worth a good £9 each.
