Pros advice

Club Repairs/Alterations/Forgiveness

We all know golf can be frustrating at times, and sometimes, when clubs misbehave, they need to be taught a lesson. The red mist even descends on players at the very highest level, follow the clip here to see quite a 'head off' from world no.4 Rory McIlroy in last week's Open Championship. Not a good example of how to behave really.

I even heard of a gentleman who once tied his golf bag to the back of his car and dragged the clubs home to punish them for bad behaviour. Wouldn't happen at Reddish Vale of course, but we do have a few regulars - you know who you are - who will vouch for what a speedy and efficient repairs service we provide.

Sometimes clubs just break
Sometimes the branches of trees are involved too

I would like to remind you that we do all club repairs from simple re-grips to re-shafting of woods and irons in both steel and graphite. We also measure and adjust lofts and lies. Don't be embarrassed to bring them in either, just say you caught it in the boot of the car...

And things being repaired are becoming more unusual in today's 'throw-away society.' You may have an old favourite club that can't be replaced, or part of a set missing, or that putter that was so good until that day it missed that three footer on the last.

I can repair them to the correct specification

I doubt Rory McIlroy will be in to get this Nike 3-wood re-shafted, it will simply be replaced, but economic sense plays no part here. Perhaps that club has been in your locker or garage long enough to have learnt its lesson and deserves a second chance; if you think so bring him or her in to me.

The Open

Open Championship

The golf played by Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson on the final day was the best golf I think I have ever seen. Far enough ahead of third place for it not to be an issue, just a matchplay scenario with two players totally focussed on victory, relaxed and pushing each other on. They were so in the zone, and who could have predicted with a round to go that Phil would shoot a 65 and lose by three?

Club news

This year must be a record-breaking year for hole-in-ones. Duncan Cheslett has added to the list, with a hole-in-one on our 12th hole in his Derbyshire & Cheshire Match last night. Well done, Duncan.

Last weekend's presentation was very well-attended so well done to all those who were there. I must comment that the variety, fun and atmosphere at the last couple of meetings has been very good. The highlight was presentation of the Captain's Prize which was a very attractive, crested and engraved glass trophy to winner Paul Wheelton.

Competition results

Ryan Jackson is currently leading the Jubilee overall after rounds of 70+72=142, but the field is a close one. The draw has been done for rounds three and four, with spaces available so if you haven't already put your name down and wish to do so, please contact us and we will put you in the draw. It is well worth playing in any rounds that you can as there are day prizes. The players who win overall prizes can't win the day prizes as well, so until all four rounds have been played we don't really know who has won what - even from rounds 1 and 2.

Lee Norcross won Division One in Wednesday's Stableford with 36 points, Division Two was won by Bob Duff also with 36 points and Rick Dobbins won Division Three with 40 points. There were 11 twos, each worth £6.81.
