72 holes in one day
On Monday, Chris Connolly, Chris Roberts, Adam Somerville and John Edgerton embarked on a golfing challenge for charity. The aim was to play four rounds in one day, starting at 5am. Despite heavy rain in the morning and some time resting/drying out in the locker room, the four battled on with the aim of completion in time to watch England play Slovakia. Adam managed 50 holes before his back gave up the ghost, but Chris, Chris and John finished at about 8:20pm and just had enough energy for a thumbs up. Well done to all four guys.
U.S. Open Controversy
Well done to Dustin Johnson, a worthy winner of the U.S. Open, but unfortunately this tournament made the headlines for the wrong reasons. At the 5th green on Sunday, Dustin appeared to have grounded his putter and so addressed the ball, before the ball moved, only a fraction and actually further away from the hole so no advantage was gained.
But is it a penalty because did Dustin actually cause the ball to move or not?
Decide for yourself and watch the footage in our video at the bottom of this newsletter. The decision of the USGA to analyse the video footage and make a decision after Dustin had completed his round was an unfortunate one, which must have added anxiety to the player, and I wonder if there had only been a single shot in it if the same decision would have been made? Guess we'll never know but I'm glad Dustin won, and by a margin that made the decision irrelevant.

Well done to Adie Ord who won the draw at the weekend, taking home £106.20 in the process - I'm sure this will help with a few shaft repairs. The second prize was won by Barry Swainson who wins £70.80. Both accounts have been credited. Thank you to everyone who had a go on the draw.
Pro's tip - Putting
Fast and true greens are a pleasure to putt on because you can 'stroke' the ball. If you play on greens that are a little slower, you can still 'stroke' the ball by simply keeping the same rhythm and using a longer swing.
If you use the same length backswing regardless of length of putt or pace of the greens, you will be forced to speed up and 'jab' at the longer putts, whilst decelerating on your shorter putts; destroying the smoothness of the stroke and making distance control something of a lottery.
So keep a smooth rhythm and make the length of back and through swing proportional to the length of the putt and or the speed of the greens
V-Easy training aid
Probably the most simple and effective putting aid I have seen. This device allows you to feel what a really good stoke feels like in seconds. I'm not joking, ask either Abbie or myself about it next time you're in the shop - it can save you precious shots.
Swing path - What's yours?
Your swing path is the path of the clubhead through the impact position. It explains a great deal about your resulting ball flight and many golfers don't know exactly what their swing path is, and many wrongly believe they know what it is. You know, in-to-out, out-to-in etc. Correct analysis will help you better understand your golf swing and how you can improve it. The GC2 in the Swing Studio photographs your clubhead as it passes through impact so you can see exactly what yours is in seconds.
If you want to hire the Studio and press a button and see the numbers yourself please do.
Dunham Trophy - The next round of the Dunham will be played this Sunday against Disley. We have a home draw, first tee off is 2:30pm and any support will be much appreciated.
Captain's Round 1 - Liam Houghton is the clubhouse leader after the first round. Liam posted a 70-6=64 to be leading by three from Paul Wheelton and Mark Watkins. There are still a lot of people with a chance to win tomorrow. There will also be day prizes and overall prizes. All prizes will be presented at the next presentation which will be July 2nd.
Pro's Stableford - Gareth Eyres won Sunday's Pro's Stableford with 38 points. It is great to see Gareth shooting good scores as he has put a lot of time into his golf and comes for regular lessons. Dave Hamilton finished second with 36 points beating Alan Jones on countback. There were three twos worth £13.66 each. Click here to see the full results.
Wednesday Section Stableford - This was won by MR Handicaps himself, Derek Simpkins, with 39 points. Mike Warburton won Division Two with 35 points and Nick Devine won Division Three with 34 points. There were nine twos worth £9.00 each.
