After my good advice about taking plenty of fluid with you onto the golf course last week, and stories about people fainting in the heat, unfortunately there was more danger of drowning on Captain's Weekend. Play was cancelled mid-round on both Saturday and Sunday due to heavy rain and flooding. A few groups did manage to finish 18 holes, including Paul Temple who was clubhouse leader with a 69, Colin Barr had three 2s, Jamie Greig had a hole-in-one at the 4th but unfortunately none of it counted.
The Captain's Round 1 is now tomorrow (Saturday, 18 June) and you can see the draw on BRS. There is the odd space remaining so if you're looking for a game please contact us in the shop as soon as possible. Round 2 will be Saturday 25th so enter the draw either with us or on HowDidiDo to get the time zone you require.
Gary Hill won Division One in Wednesday's Medal with a gross 72 (nett 67), beating Paul Sloane on countback. Division Two was won by Alan Finney's nett 70, also winning on countback from Alan Booth. Nick Devine won Division Three with a nett 72. There were only six twos this week, worth £9.50 each.
The US Open is underway and the course is playing tough. The par-5 12th hole at Oakmont Country Club is the longest hole in tournament history at 684 yards. It isn't often you see Rory McIlroy playing his third shot from 288 yards away. The greens are running exceptionally well and are stimping around 14. The weather has again played its part as the wind and heavy rain postponed play yet again. Let's hope for a better weekend both here and at Oakmont.
This weekend we have a US Open sweepstake running. There are 100 squares to choose from and the two squares that are drawn out will receive credit in the shop. It is £2 per square.
Driver fitting
Too many golfers are using the wrong driver and it's costing them loads of shots. The right driver will be longer and straighter, giving you more confidence, and meaning you'll require less club for the next shot.
Old drivers, lack of loft and wrong shafts are the main culprits
If you're curious about how a new driver could benefit you, book a fitting session in the swing studio and our GC2 system will tell you everything you need to know. Bring your current driver and compare the flight, distance, distribution pattern and side spin to that of the latest technology. Book a driver fitting here.
Custom fit your irons
The vast majority of irons sold in the shop are ordered in, after the buyer has been correctly custom fitted using the GC2 having tried a large number of demo products. The clubs are factory custom built and then delivered. If you go for PING irons they usually supply your new irons in three to four days.
You can't under estimate the importance of custom fitting
The game can be difficult enough without using the wrong equipment. And even if you have bought a set blind because perhaps they seemed cheap, we can always custom fit the length, lie angle and grip size and type which can make them more suitable for you.

The PING i irons have proved to be a huge success at Reddish Vale. I have spent a lot of time fitting customers for new irons, and once they have the i series in their hand it is making a huge impact on their game. The PING i irons are forgiving and when you look down at the top edge, they look like a blade. If you haven't already, then come and try them out for yourself.
