Pros news

Is it worth spending money on new clubs?

It's hard to justify spending money on new clubs without knowing for a fact that they are better than your current ones. For years the usual trial was watching the flight and making a judgement on how it felt:

'I think that went a bit further'

Now we have the GC2, you can see exactly how your clubs compare to others. You can compare distances to the yard. The amount of side-spin on the ball is crucial to the shape of the flight; these figures can fluctuate massively with different clubs and you can compare these. And you do all the testing with the same lie, no wind and even the very same ball.

So the GC2 will supply the evidence (or not) of how different clubs may benefit you

PING G25 opportunity

Yes G25. I have the opportunity to order brand new custom fit sets of PING G25 at 40% OFF normal price. These irons may be a couple of models old, but you can be fitted and own a set of PINGs from as little as £320. I bet a set of PING irons would have cost you more in 1980. If you like the idea we have all the demos and fitting equipment, although stocks are limited. Come and speak to us in the shop.

Club news

Junior Gathering - The next Junior Gathering will be Sunday, 29 May at 2pm. Please enter your child/grandchild in the pro shop so we can see how many we have. Abbie and I will be organising the session, so this is an opportunity for children to come along and have a go.

Captains' Trip - The first Reddish Vale Past/Present and Future Captains gathering took place earlier this week and was played over one of Tony Barnes' favourite courses, Holyhead Golf Club on Anglesey. The trip involved an overnight stay, I would think a couple of beers and two games of golf. Allan Duffy won day one with 33 points and Paul Dineen won day two with 39 points, beating Trevor Bate on 37. Thank you to the Captain for supplying the photos and results from the trip. Tony hopes that the trip will continue in future years.

Competition results

We had two competitions on Saturday, the Invitation Day (member and guest) and a 4BBB Stableford (members).

The Invitation Day was won by Mike Radcliffe and Tim Green (Stockport) with 41 points. Les Jones and Jason Jones (Fairfield) finished second with 40 points beating Neil Crewdson and Peter Mosley (Ashton on Mersey) on countback. Click here to see the full results.

Nick Carroll and Ian Mottershead won the 4BBB with 43 points. Dave Hamilton and Craig Davies were second with 40 points beating several teams on countback. Click here to see the results.

Sunday's Pro's Stableford was won by Paul Bruckshaw with 37 points, second was Kevin Seaton with 34 points and Paul Donohue finished 3rd with 33 points. The twos were worth £8.80 each. Click here to see the full results.

Success story

Dream Day

If you think Craig Davies looks very happy, here's why - In Wednesday's Stableford, Craig holed a 5-wood for a hole-in-one at the 6th. The 6th must be one of the most pleasant tee shots to play anyway, and Craig described how he watched the shot all the way, which was all over the flag, before landing four feet short and rolling into the hole.

Craig also managed a two at the 12th and went on to win Division One with 40 points. Well done Craig, what a worthy winner.

Bob Kelsall won Division Two with 38 points, beating Alan Bell on a card play-off. Division Three was won by Rick Dobbins with 36 points.
