Captains' Drive-In
Well done to our new Captain and Lady Captain who drove in on Sunday, both managing well-struck tee shots in front of a large crowd. The atmosphere was good as Lady Captain Jeanette Kinder went first and played a good drive straight down the middle. Captain Tony Barnes' drive was well struck but the length of the drive was reduced somewhat by the conifers on the right. The shotgun competition was fully subscribed, but unfortunately play was abandoned due to lightning as we received a blast of Storm Katie.
Did you know?
Not a lot of people know this, but back in the day Dave Bennett was a keen and able footballer, and more specifically a goalkeeper. Dave is seen holding a copy of the match programme in which he played in goal for Manchester United B against Oldham Athletic; there were no last minute penalty saves or the like, but Dave managed to keep a clean sheet as they won 1-0. He said that one of the highlights for him was playing alongside Alan Gowling. From Manchester United, Dave was signed by Stockport County where he played for twelve months. And by the way, Dave has been converted and now enjoys the fun of the Pro's Cross Country!
Caption Competition
Last week I put this picture in the newsletter, the idea was to email in what you think the best caption would be in order to win a 30-minute lesson with myself.
I can reveal the best caption came all the way from the USA and was from Brent Hutto with:
'This is going to give a whole new meaning to "double rollover" when I get to #6...'
Well done to Brent who has won a 30-minute lesson with me for next time he is over.
The deadline to enter the knockouts will be Sunday, 10 April - that is a week on Sunday. There is always someone who misses out, don't let it be you. Entry is £5 per person per entry, you must come into the pro shop and pay on entry. There are singles, foursomes and fourball knockouts to go at, all of which are board competitions.
Pro's Cross Country
I hope you enjoyed last week's course, which was something of a more forgiving layout compared to previous monsters. Thank you to everyone who played, and to the people who came in after their round and commented how much they had enjoyed the course. Every year we come out with something different, and I particularly liked the two closing holes of this layout and how they played back directly towards the clubhouse which is a view that you wouldn't normally notice. Anyway, Neil Crewdson, David Edwards and Rod Dean led for most of the day with an excellent 94 points, only to be pipped by the last card - which was also the wettest card by far - of Paddy Weadick, Alan Finney and Gary Sawbridge who somehow managed 96.
OOM
Saturday was the final round of the Winter Order of Merit. The OOM ran over 18 weeks, with points available for the top six players. Phil Houghton won with a total of 550 points; Steve McCann finished second 525 points. Click here to see the final standings.
Pro's Easter Stableford
This weekend we had a pro's running stableford on Friday, Sunday and Monday. Kenny Barthram had the best score of the weekend with 36 points, Ray O'Sullivan finished second with 34 points beating John Ebbs, Andy Young and Lewis Cooper on a card play-off. There were 10 twos worth £7.50 each. Click here to see the full results.
Pro Shop Stableford
Wednesday saw the last Pro Shop Stableford of March take place. Steve Austin won the 15-hole competition, his 36 points taking first place by one from Mike Radcliffe and Dave Hamilton in second and third. Several twos were made on the day, each earning £7.60. Click here to see the full results.
