It was all about The Masters this week; and for once my prediction (which was written on Thursday before the start of play) of Bubba Watson to win was actually correct! A few people have thanked me for the heads up as they put their money on Bubba; these included both Ken Whitlow and our local DPD delivery man!
Bubba didn't seem nervous at all, and took on some quite extra ordinary shots even on the closing holes. But when you have been there and done it before, the second time is much easier. I like Bubba's style of play and although I would not dream of trying to teach people to swing like Bubba, he is one of those naturals with an unorthodox technique that works.
The bar stayed open late on Sunday to watch the Masters and the event was well attended. If you missed the hot pot I can tell you that it was superb and you have missed out badly. Must admit, I only made it to 10 o'clock, but had been at the club just under 15 hours.
Masters Draw
The draw for two limited edition signed prints of Augusta has also been made. Les Gibson has won the one of the 11th and Anthony Lyons the one of the 15th. Well done to both winners and thank you to everyone that entered.
75 people played in my Pro's Masters Stableford which is a fantastic turn out thank you. Mike Canning made the most of a nice day and scored 37 points to win by one from Nigel Ashworth. There were four people tied on 34 points, but Macauley Dentith had the best back nine to finish third.
Additional prize; Each player who entered on Sunday drew a player who was playing in the final round of The Masters later that day, and their two scores were then combined. Nigel Ashworth drew Jamie Donaldson which proved a winning partnership; Jamie carded a final round of -2 in the Masters, which was combined with Nigel's 36 points for a winning total of 38.
There were 12 two's on the day worth £6.25 each.
This week's Wednesday Section competition was the first qualifying stableford of the year, and couldn't have been played in nicer weather. Division 1 was won by Curtis Brokenbrow with 36 points, the best score of the day came from Lewis Cooper who won division 2 with 41 points, and Mike Thompson won Div 3 with 34.
Steve Bardsley's 2 at the 3rd on Wednesday is easily worth a mention, a drive and a perfect 8 iron into the hole. Ask Steve to explain his theory of alignment and shoe laces. One shoe with pink laces, the other with yellow? Anyway, Steve will explain it and it worked on the 3rd. Also take a good look at Steve's golf shoes - he says they're the most comfortable pair of shoes he's ever had.
The final of the seniors winter knockout was played on Tuesday, Graham Warburton won with a 3&1 victory over Geoff Loughlin who both have been in good form all through winter. The plate was won by Mike Short who beat Neil Crewdson in the final.
Founders Trophy
Next Saturday's competition is the first major (board competition) of the year. In the traditional way, there will be a sheet in the Pro Shop tomorrow so you can use a pencil or pen, to write your names on it before the draw for partners takes place later in the week.
Presentation
The next presentation will be held on Saturday 26th April, this will be Mr Captain's first presentation; it will be on Saturday 26th April. Make sure you keep it free in your diary.
The draw for the knockouts have been done, they are on the board.
Trion: Z Duo Loop Bracelet
I have now got the new Trion: Z bracelets in stock. They have magnetic and negative ion which help to increase the blood flow around the body, they also reduce muscle stiffness. They are great for people with joint problems or general aches and pains. They come in a variety of colours and strengths. These are worn by many sporting stars in all sports including Matteo Manessaro, Edoardo Molinari and many more.
Lamkin UTX Grips
Have a look at these new Lamkin grips which are quite different and in stock now. They are a fine cord grip, but they don't feel like it - they are soft and tacky. Previous cord grips such as Multi Compounds are good grips when new but can be quite hard on the hands and wear out quite quickly. These are perfect for all weather and are available in Red, Blue or Black.
Please note; Pro's Running stableford Friday, Sunday & Monday this weekend.
Course News
The greens were micro tined on Monday and Tuesday this week. Comments about the greens have been nothing but praise recently, and we must accept that micro tining is an essential part of healthy greens for the long term.
