Last week I was at The Belfry participating in my level 1 residential course for my PGA qualification. The week entailed Monday to Friday of 9-5 lectures on many subjects including: golf coaching, custom fitting, business and Sports Science.
My personal favourite was the custom fitting because I had already learnt a lot from Andy (Pro) and this reinforced how important the correct club is (lie angle, length and shaft combinations) as these factors make a significant difference on overall performance and consistency for every player. I made a lot of friends during the week, one of which came and played Reddish yesterday and was astounded at the quality and complexity of the Vale. She commented on how good the greens look and can't wait to return in the summer.
I recently passed my level 1 coaching with the PGA which enables me to teach juniors and beginners. The Pro and I are in the process of outlining a fresh plan for 2016 to increase the Junior Section and provide more fun activities to maintain their interest in this great game. As a past junior member, I can't wait to put something back into the club.
So if you have a child or grandchild wishing to try golf at Reddish Vale, then please come into the shop and register them with myself or Andy. Alternatively, get in touch with us here.
The Swing Studio has been very busy over the winter months.
It has brought out a lot of those fair weather golfers who we wouldn't normally see for another few months. The perks of the Studio is that you never have to play golf in the cold or rain, it is always lovely and warm all year round.
No wonder Ian Cowlard hires it out every week!
Sat 16 Jan - Saturday's 2 From 3 Stableford was won by Geoff Loughlin, Colin Farrow and David Hollington with a score of 79 points. Second were Dave Pilling, Kenny Barthram and John Booth with 77 points and third were Derek Wilson, Arthur Cooper and John Blakey with 75 points. There were only five twos on Saturday, each worth £6.06.
Sun 17 Jan - Despite Sunday's Pro's Comp being called off due to snow, it didn't stop several people playing golf as the Swing Studio was booked all morning. Sorry if I have to turn anyone away but the studio is booked on a first-come, first-served basis.
Wed 20 Jan - Dave Pilling (pictured here) won the Pro's Stableford on Wednesday with a level-par gross round of 37 points. Dave Hamilton was quick to reduce his handicap down to six. Dave had a brilliant season last year and managed to get his name in gold. I am sure he will have many more opportunities to win a Major in the coming season. There were only 2 twos worth £12.50 each. Click here to see the full results.
Phil Houghton is still ahead in the Winter Order of Merit by 150 points. With 100 points available for a win it is still all to play for. Click here to see the up to date results.
There is a Presentation on Saturday, 23 January (tomorrow) at 5pm. If you are on the sheet (click here to view) then please turn up with your Jacket and Tie to collect your voucher from the Captain.
